    I wonder whether the floor reflection is a bigger problem than the sidewalls. Have you tried a thick rug (or those blankets from the left couch) at the appropriate spot on the floor? Might do wonders in that room -- maybe even warm things up enough to counter the upper-mid emphasis you're hearing.

    We used to have a thinner rug, which was a bad thing in that room, making the top octave sound too damped compared to the upper midrange. Also keep in mind that the "floor" reflection from the left speaker is the table, at least for the midrange drivers and up. I have two thick sheepskins which might work somewhat effectively down to 2kHz or so that I can try today.
