those make for an amazing aesthetic improvement... do they actually do anything for you acoustically?

As per my commentary here: https://www.superbestaudiofriends.o...hannel-advice-thread.3191/page-64#post-435197

I would say things cleaned up a little bit. I had some weirdness in my corner alcove where things somehow got darker and blurrier. The panels cleared up some (not all) of the blur, but the darkness remains. Staging/spatialization seems unaffected.

The manual has a convoluted screws + goop adhesive + spray adhesive installation, but I used a brad nailer which made things super easy.

I suggest raising the speakers so that the drivers are ear level. Optimizes on-axis performance and reduces reflections off the table.

I used to fancy the Isoacoustics stands. Never got around to them, though, and old books are good. And free.

It's perhaps hard to tell from the photo that the speakers are on small angle brackets, that point them right over my shoulders at my usual listening position. Maybe doesn't address reflections, but I'm definitely close to the sweet spot.

My concern with stands is mostly weight. I've got 40 kg (90 lb) on the back third of this desk! She canna take much more of this Captain....

@Armaegis, that looks really nice! Good compromise for sound, acoustics, and aesthetics in a combined space. Enjoy!

Here's an overshare letting you all know how I sleep. Not excited for that, but I am excited for how this turned out. Please don't try to dox me. I abandoned headphones a few months ago to buy a cheap pair of Revels for my home office space. It was fine but a couple weeks ago I found these walnut Harbeth SHL5plus XD's just 10 minutes down the road. They were listed at a price I could not ignore and appear to be no more than a year old.

The Skylan stands just came today so I finally got some pics. The stands are 24" high rather than the normal 18" height typically used with the HL5. I had them made to 24" height for better clearance above the bed. In one of the pics you can see the corner of my work desk. So I sit 14' away just out of frame of the pics. Somehow they sound absolutely stunning in this space. Bass is audible down to 24Hz and there's a massive peak at 33Hz due to the room size. I will take some better measurements now that I have real stands.

I only have a couple treatments near my listening area. I've found the CHoco EMEI amp to be outstanding, but it is dramatically improved with my Audia Flight FLS-1 for preamp duties. I am trying to resist the urge to put some Schiit Tyr's right behind each speaker as they will fit perfectly on the floor behind each speaker stand. I am likely to pickup the new single-chassis stereo version of the Tyr I recently read about. For now, the CHoco EMEI has absolutely zero problems with the easy 6 ohm load of the Harbeths.

I should try to adjust that cabinet door. Also see my other system posted here. They are remarkably different. I'm still in the honeymoon phase, but the Harbeth room seems to sound better. I may swap the Vivids into my office and put the Harbeths in the treated room to see how it goes.

Just warm to the touch after being on and run all day. In my experience it never gets hot.

I'll continue the theme of Harbeth / home office setups. These 30.1 were flagged on the 'Used Deals' thread here at SBAF recently, and also originated in Grand Rapids at a super aggressive price. The Technics integrated is a sublime pairing with the Harbeth. This is an endgame amplification setup for me, and I doubt I'll look to do anything to replace the integrated DAC or phono stage anytime soon (years). OpticalRendu w/ Teddy Pardo LPS on the bottom shelf is an appreciable step-up over the Allo USBridge I was using before.

I'm still playing with the treatment, which is admittedly not doing much for bass, but I'm getting good layering/depth and decent width of the soundstage sitting 6.5' from the speakers. I'm looking to move the headphone setup off the desk and immediately down and to the right - will check out the resale shops for a small end-table. Bass response is good at seated position and have the SVS sub crossed-over at 57 hz. w/ a pronounced null centered around 70 hz. Moving the chair back a foot improves staging/imaging at the expense of less even bass response.

    MarkAudio CHN-50P Near-Field Speaker Project

I finally completed my very first DIY speaker! I used the MarkAudio CHN-50P driver and based my design on the vented box standmount measurements from MarkAudio website. Before this project, I had no woodworking experience, so I cut the MDF panels using a friend's CNC machine. For the baffle, I chose teak wood, which has a beautiful grain.

Also, I didn’t own a nail gun and had just two clamps, that’s why I used CA glue to put together the box and sanded it manually. As for the backside, I applied the spray paint to it, but it was not quite the way I wanted. There were some flaws like pimpling, orange peel effects, and sagging though generally they are not visible when looking from a far distance. A clear spray finish was given to the baffle

Soundwise, I would say it is generally alright, only with very few bass. I consider this a learning process, and I will be expecting to get back to another project sooner

One of the first great truths of woodworking that everybody learns... you always need more clamps.

Continued from here where I showed the speaker stands I got: https://www.superbestaudiofriends.o...hannel-advice-thread.3191/page-67#post-436527
Quite literally some ikea cutting boards that have legs, with a piece of scrap lumber screwed in between as a brace.

Unless you're lying on the floor, you really don't see the screws.

In any event, relatively cheap and far better aesthetically than the stack of scrap 2x10's I was using before. I needed roughly 3-4" of height to clear the tweeter from the corner of the cabinet right next to it.
