I've had most of this setup for years but have only ever used it for TV/movie watching/PS5 with the kids. I decided to make an effort with speaker positioning and holy shit this sounds pretty great now. I'm sitting 9' from speakers that are 9' feet apart, and about 4' into the room. Room setup could be improved w/ speakers on the short wall but my wife is adamant that the TV stays where it is. I'm still able to manage a decent center image, but imaging/staging is definitely better from the left channel than the right, which is open to the rest of the basement.

Ethernet>>iFi Zen Stream via Roon>>Yggdrasil LIM via USB>>Denon X3500 in 'Pure Direct' mode as preamp>>Adcom GFA 555 i.e. the one Nelson Pass Designed>Polk LSiM 707. The SVS PB2000 and the center channel are off. I think I'm going to grab a Mercury V3 as a better streamer and call it good.

This is the native response at listening position via the HouseCurve app with a UMIK1. I made some quick convolution filters w/ cuts only to normalize the response through 350 hz and it's very satisfying.

I owned a CJ Premier 17LS preamp, and it’s one of the loveliest and most musical preamps I’ve ever heard, so kudos on that. If I may make a suggestion for your consideration: you should pull the speakers further away from the front wall (that is, the wall behind the speakers) and also pull them further apart. From your photo, they appear to be too close to the front wall and not far enough apart. Try it and see what you think. Cheers.

I'm supposed to be downsizing but I can't help myself.
I got these Wharfedale Linton stands and then I found a Boulder monoblock that fit just about perfectly into it. Linn Klimax DS/1 -> Ayre K-5xe -> Boulder 850s -> Philharmonic BMR Monitors.

Best sound I've had in years. I should have taken a picture of the literal million dollar system in the store I bought my monoblocks from. Next time for the speaker porn thread (wilsons, dcs, d'agostino system).

Looks wonderful. Must be a bit hard to balance, with one speaker next to the wall and the other with lots of space?

That's an acoustic quilt right there, no probs :) And its a TV setup, the dialog in unintelligible anyway.

Oh yeah... I neglected to count the number of points on the star, so I did not realise that it was acoustic.
    ;) :D.

    It's very pretty :)

    Thanks!

It's not too bad, the BMR's wide dispersion seems to help. The quilt also helps a great deal, as do the covers on the TV cabinet and coffee table.

Going by Anthem ARC's measurements, the left does have more "bass bloat" but room correction software deals with that easily.

The real issue is that the speakers are too close together and nothing to be done for that. If I put that right speaker where "it's supposed to be" it's right in the middle of the the paths to the other rooms. I'd have to shift the TV over by something like 3-4 feet. Doorways prevent a better setup, too.

My wife made it! Took a very long time.

Had I known, I would have had her use rockwool instead of cotton batting ;)

I have the opposite with my right speaker by a window, and the left speaker in the middle of the room. Volume seems balanced overall, but my left/right spatialization is off. When I listen to this video below with the snares panning from left to right (starts at 4:20), my left side is pretty much a blur until it gets to the middle, but my right localization side is fine.

@artur9 I'd be curious if you hear the opposite.

Sorry to be captain obvious, but a room divider or some sort of barrier next to the open speaker will make a big difference even if it does not extend much beyond the front of the drivers.

Maybe a GiK absorption panel on a movable stand? Then it could be hidden in a nearby closet when the serious listening is done.

Maybe if I show my partner Soup's setup again, that will shift expectations and I could get away with a rolling panel... but somehow I doubt it o_O

Is it the serious listening with the panel and daily listening without?

I had contemplated putting the right speaker on wheels to roll it to the right position for serious listening....

Thanks for the suggestion - I thought room dividers were far more expensive than they appear to be so I might order one today. I'm also considering a movable diffuser panel on a dolly that I could slide up against the wall when not in use. Just yesterday I sold those Polk speakers and moved in the Audio Note AN-E I picked up last week and the soundstage width issue is not as pronounced. The AN-E sit less than a foot from the front wall toed-in to the listening position and their horizontal dispersion doesn't seem quite as good as the Polk's so they don't throw as wide of a stage in the first place.

I'm also considering using two 2X4' foam diffusers attached to a piece of stiff canvas or other lightweight backing material that I can hang from hooks screwed into the rafters in front of the television for long listening sessions. If anyone has any experience with whether this move would be helpful I'd appreciate it. I can't really discern an improvement in imaging if the TV is angled up/down/sideways etc. so I'm inclined to think the potential benefit is largely in not having to look at the television.

I ordered a 4-panel room divider this morning so will update the thread with impressions. I'm in the process of consolidating my setups to one system. The speakers are AN-E Spe HE. Once I sell the Klipsch Cornwall I have in another room I'll move an Audio Note Cobra amp in and an ANK L3 phono stage. The speakers are 10.5' apart and 10.8' from my listening position and cross just behind my head.

The grey boxes and the two amplifiers on the bottom rack are half of a custom built Audio Kinesis Swarm system I picked up at an exceptional discount recently. The other two subs are in the back left corner and to the right of the listening position. I currently have them crossed-over at around 35 hz. I just started working at integration yesterday and am trying to get everything tuned by ear before taking any measurements, building convolution filters etc. We're also putting a new sectional down there this summer which will require moving things around / more absorption in the room so I'm not going to get too attached to anything at this point. I wish I could orient the whole room lengthwise but the TV has to be where it is etc.

Nice pickup! I probably spend about 70% of my time with my AN-E’s (kit 3, so pretty much the same as SPE/HE) with a single SVS SB-1000 turned off. When the sub is turned on, it’s only crossed over at 30Hz using a 12dB slope. The AN-E’s really do reach down quite convincingly with good corner placement.
