Yeah, you called it. Yeah, moving things has made a huge mental and sonic improvement. It's just nice to have the focus of the room be the audio.

Beautiful setup! What made you choose the Orcas specifically?

Gaurav played them for me and I fell in love and he sold them to me. They are a very special version you sadly can't get anymore.

Ahh, okay. So the current ones won't sound like those? I'm looking at single driver speakers and was mostly focused on Omega, but those look interesting too.

I think you visited @shaizada 's place once? Did he showcase the nagas for you? I was immediately in love once I heard them, but too bad Blumenstein doesn't make them anymore. I would think orcas sound very similar to them. @drfindley would you care to elaborate how close the orcas come to the nagas?

I've been to shaizada's. He did play me a single driver speaker, which is what made me want to get a pair for myself, but embarrassingly I don't remember the brand. It might have been the nagas, they had a floorstander sized cabinet. However, being shaizada, the ones he had were unique and not found on the common market. :)

Bingo, those are it! He told me Clark (who also builds orcas) was losing money for each one built and discountined the line.

Right, that's what I remember. I really loved the clarity, precision, and speed of the single drivers. Since my listening space will be small, I'm not worried about the tradeoffs. I'd be curious to hear the Omegas and the current production Blumensteins for comparison.

You most certainly have. I was wondering where all the things were going after @shaizada went on a buying binge. ;)

Congrats on a great setup.

Best and funkiest of turntables? For me it is. A (now old school) daily driver Technics SL-1200MK2 with Rega RB300 with Origin Live upgrades. The deal of the decade when I was first starting out...a serious jump at that time!

That is, until I get this up and going...when I stop moving around so much...need to sell the DV505 first!

Sold the SME 3012 a few years ago for funds for another project. Not sure what to get now...Will have to get a new armboard for a different make...Suggestions?

Havent tested if the turntable works, scared of the amp, i need to check to see if there are any components that may explode. Tube amp works, just dont know for how long.

Doing a dry fit and basic setup...cartridge's should be setup soon in the near future. Going to do 3 arms on this table I think...

So the time has come to upgrade my Kuzma. Originally I planned to move to the gargantuan Stabi M system, but after a lot of research, questioning of views, and sleepless nights, I've narrowed it down to two primary candidates:

    http://www.grandprixaudio.com/products/monaco-turntable-v20
The direct drive and material science wunderkind: the Grand Prix Audio Monaco v2.0

    http://www.techdas.jp/analog_05.html
The air suspended, fine pedagreed kid from Japan: TechDAS Air Force III

I'm leaning toward the TechDAS. I've spent a bit of time with the Air Force One and Two, and they are truly exceptional sounding if ridiculously pricey. The Monaco however intrigues me with its direct drive and emphasis on computer controlled precision. In terms of plinth design, it takes the "less to vibrate" approach versus the "pile on the weight" approach, though it is meant to be paired with a shelf system made entirely of carbon fiber.

    Also for shits and giggles:
    http://www.welltemperedlab.net/welltemperedlab/products/royale-400/

I have a place in my jaded heart for Well Tempered Labs' weirdness. 16" tonearm filled with sand and using a golfball for suspension. Massive 100 lbs plinth. In my experience WTL is really fussy and needs to constantly be recallibrated / parts need to be replaced. But it's still kinda neat in an out there way. And they sound pretty good!

Those are some killer choices! I really love the AF3 and the entire AirForce line. The AF3 was one of my top choices when I was turntable shopping as well.

Never heard a Monaco but Fremer really went in on the v1.0 with the "dry" sound stuff in his review some years ago. I loooove the look of the table though.

The direct drive is definitely a plus for me, as experience has shown me the power of direct and idler drive when brought up to modern spec. However the Tech DAS pedigree, air suspension, vacuum clamp, and support for multiple tonearms of varying length is also really enticing.

"More to go wrong" but enticing nonetheless.

The TechDas tables are superb. Some great choices there @MuppetFace .

If possible, can you get an audition in your own system? I've heard the Grand Prix Monaco 1.0 and 1.5. I haven't yet heard the new 2.0 version with apparently significant upgrades. I love their simplicity...though the kind of tonearm you use will have a really big impact with these tables. I tend to like them with slightly warmer sounding tonearms like Triplanars, rather than Grahams. The Kuzma 4 point would be a fantastic match as well, which I believe you own.

Direct drives and belt drives tend to render sound very differently. What fits is really taste and system dependent. An audition, is possible is really the best way to do this, especially at these higher price points.

Been looking for a new table for a couple of months, waiting for the perfect deal on a used VPI to come up on ebay, audiogon, etc. I was looking for something beat up, older, and with as few accessories as possible. Was going to put up a bunch of headphones / ragnarok up for sale to see what I could squeeze out.

For whatever reason, my wife catches me checking out VPI Classics on ebay, and her face turns as white as a ghost. I ask what is going on, and she informs me that she attempted to purchase me a turntable for fathers day, and long story but it happens to be arriving in a few days. I didn't believe my wife, because she doesn't know much about this hobby, turntables, etc. She wasn't fibbing.

    My new turntable:

I have a long ways to go, even more to learn, but am pretty excited to be moving forward in my analog adventures.
