Damn too bad I'm not local, and most of the music that I listen to isn't on vinyl. I'd definitely love to hear a VPI classic one of these days. Grats to whoever gets it.

I'm going through a list of people who I think will buy it for the asking price. If this falls through, I will drop the price $50 per day from $1800. I know that this would have sold locally at the asking price had I put it up for sale on Audiogon.

I'd rather this table go to someone here. A few hundred means less to me than someone here getting an opportunity to experience a top shelf table.

@shaizada does not kid when he speaks of how good this table is. After I received this table, I never looked back at digital. This is why I am getting rid of most my DACs and why I don't care about which USB to SPDIF converter is better anymore. The incoming table that I am getting to place this table is "better"; but all I am really doing is chasing that last few percent in sound quality, getting more options, and opting more for an audio jewelry aspect.

P.S. If this goes for well below asking price, part of the deal is that the purchaser must write a convincing essay on why he would like this table and post it here. My mission is to spread audio joy, not to enrich flippers or satisfy curious dabblers.

Keep in mind that a cart and phono preamp will be needed.

BTW, I will have another table for sale for far less in a week or two. A Pro-Ject Xpression with carbon arm and acrylic platter. I might throw in a center weight, which is needed with the acrylic platter. I think I have a cart on it already. I want to set everything up right and make sure it works before I sell it. This one I am willing to ship.

Just curious, do you think that this could potentially skew your objective/subjective evaluations of DACs, or not?

Anyway, looking forward to reading the winning essay (should the sale price drop that much).

There's a friend of mine not on the boards that I'd like to get into this if it doesn't work for @BioniclePhile first. He did show up to the Brooks Berden meet and had a great time, though we spent a bunch of time talking to Jason and so who wouldn't like that?

Not objective evaluation because that is measurement based on a set of standards, but it could affect my subjective evaluation of DACs, especially tweaks like USB to SPDIF converters. However, I felt my recent observations on USB de-fuckifiers (Wyrd vs. Regen) were as good as ever, offering more insight into how these units differed rather than simply offering numeric scores or statements of one being better than the other.

Where it has definitely affected me is assessing the worth and time into partaking such tweaks for what I now consider to be a limited playback mechanism. It's like why bother, especially when I know it's never going to be as good as vinyl. You can combine the best qualities of the two best DACs I've heard (the EAR and the Yggdrasil), and multiple the result of that by three, and a good vinyl setup will still beat it. There's a reason why about a half dozen members have been converted with probably more to come.

I still want this to happen for when digital is the only option.

Listening to Grant Green - Matador and blown away. Jazz never used to do this for me on digital.

I dunno about you guys, but the vast majority of the music I listen to is recorded digitally...I feel like that defeats the purpose a bit wouldn't you agree? Like I still miss my table, but only because the metal bands would get better masters put out on the vinyl than the cd version, but it's still mixed and mastered digitally and if those masters were available digitally(which they almost never are :/ ) I wouldn't see any reason to have a table.

Am I missing something? I guess a lot of you listen to older music that can be had basically "natively" in analog?

Well, better mastering on the vinyl side. as you said. Also D/A (and A/D) conversions inflict trauma to the music - best to limit them as much as possible.

I'm sure you've read up on the horrific history early of transporters. The first ones were digital, and scientists discovered that over successive transports, the test subjects started to slowly lose their personalities, their "souls", even though the scientists could find no measurable differences (even with their 23rd century refrigerated sized industrial tricorders) between the people before and after transport. The solution of course was to go to a totally analog system. It's not like analog was perfect. The early systems were inaccurate and test subjects got sick, barfed, and pooped in their pants after transport; but at least they didn't lose their minds. Unfortunately, for those early digital system test subjects, they will never recover aspects of their personalities that they lost.

With the purchase of the Valhalla and building that Raspberry Pi setup, I'm about done with my digital rig. I've had a vinyl setup for years but it is, IMO, woefully inadequate. I need to spruce it up one way or another, probably replace a lot of the pieces in the chain.
