whew, thank goodness. dam i wish i could hear that fuckin mythical 4x45...

i'd also add erro's Moth OTL prototype, which, if he ever sells, you obv have first dibs on it, i think i am 3rd or 4th in line lmao ( :

edit: sorry for mucking up the MJ3 thread, mods pls delete if you feel it doesnt add value. i am just happy i am covid-neg and feeling better lmao

ok ok, i can add something: having heard both the FV and the MJ3 prototype under meet conditions, i'd have to say i have one little niggle, the FV i heard was fed by MMB2 via unison (ipad as controller, so im just guessing here), and i don’t think i can agree w this source, i think that amp could spread its wings more w a beefier DAC.

and I still think MJ3 is the new SS king when it comes to Audezes, that amp has some serious chutzpah and big ass balls with the LCD-series. and i do agree w @purr1n's DAC suggestions for MJ3, i heard it w LIM, and i think every source choice he suggested was spot on.

How sweet sounding is the MJ3?

    Compared to BW2, 3F, MJ3, DNA amps.
Where does it land on the scale?

Also does it do the DHT thing? kinda a tough ask but im curious.

You will now - at least with respect to touching hot heatsinks.

Lol. Reference to an old show "Kung-Fu" starring David Carradine as Kwai Chiang Caine, a shaolin Monk who could probably handle holding those heat sources due to their discipline and will. Was a very good show for its time.

MMB2. This DAC is neutral/bright, so I have it in NOS mode with using with Mjolnir 3.

MMB2 is good, but still can't hold a handle to the bigboi stuff. It's doesn't have the refinement, separation, energy, resolution, dynamics, heft. Note that the MMB2 works in a pinch as you saw in the photo of my transportable rig. I would leave MMB2 in standard OS mode with the Folkvangr because it's more rolled / phatter sounding. However, either way with both works fine - really a matter of fine tuning with the headphones and material I usually listen. Despite the Mjolnir 3 having its own sound, being a somewhat colored amp differences in DACs have been so incredibly easy to make out. I found myself pickier than usual with DACs when I generally don't care that much.

Depends upon what you mean. I tend to apply the word "sweet" to sources (DACs, phono carts, tables), but not amps.

The only thing that does the DHT thing are DHTs. With respect to expanded sense of headspace (a common complaint about Schiit amps), Mjolnir 3 does this better than any other Schiit amp by a good margin (the only exception would be the Rag 2. Rag 2 has deeper headstage.) and probably top 20-25% among all amps I've heard. With a capable DAC, the imaging and localization are pinpoint, top 10-15 percent among amps. Nothing beats the expanded headstage thing than the EC DHT models with the HF AC filament heaters followed by 60Hz AC heaters (but this last approach don't work in headamps).

Imagine if the streamers today had the quality of writers for this show, and many other quality TV shows back in the day, e.g., Barnaby Jones, Streets of San Francisco, etc. I'd be glued to Neflix, Apple, Disney+, whatever and be in full 200% sympathy with the writers who are on strike.

I mean to say, how round are the edges? smoothness factor? or is this the transparentness, maybe it is softness.
that is what I mean by sweet.
is it localized to particular bands?

The streaming boom meant Hollywood started hiring anybody and everybody with Final Draft or a pencil, since there was so much more content. Optimists says this is a good thing, new blood, etc etc. In the end it just ratchets up mediocrity since the barrier for entry is so low (see youtube). Hence the glut of "background noise" television (only good to be played while you do other tasks such as folding laundry/cooking/studying/f'ing). The WGA leaders only want to make this worse with their "minimum staffing" nonsense, so writers can sit around and do nothing and still get paid, realizing that they don't need to work on their craft to make a living... the WGA leaders only see or care about the short term, with their stunning levels of stupidity, as they cause Hollywood to start circling the drain even faster. People already have too many other sources of entertainment (YT, social media, video games, etc) so in a few years time they will care about movies and TV even less. And Hollywood will panic and point fingers as if it isn't their fault...

The only optimism in this situation is the studios refusing this mandate (but I suspect its more because they don't want to pay extra to more writers, not because of some wise foresight), which has led to butting heads. If the WGA wins this demand, you can kiss good television goodbye for a good while.

Clear MG is the least caffeinated of the usual Focal suspects. Given it's "Audeze" FR, you project a good pair with MJ3?

Mjolnir 3 isn't a transient edgey amp, I'd say about in the middle. It's most definitely not soft-poo or relaxed, but it's not hard edged. I'd say the BW has sharper transients (but only in the highs because the BW is softer in the lows) and that the 3F and THX789 have more incisive transients. However, the Mjolnir 3 doesn't come off as slow. The sense is once things get going, the transients are fast, but that they accelerate and decelerate gently as opposed to abruptly (not to be interpreted as soft because the Mjolnir 3 punches hard). This transient behavior is consistent from highs to lows. Finally, I found transient behavior to be largely impacted by the source. (Thinking to myself, it would be interesting to hear the DM Convert 2 DAC from the Mjolnir 3 for a really tight articulate explosive presentation).

Not to be understated, it's really the overall package, the coherence and consistency of tone, timbre, transient behavior, dynamics, presentation of detail that this the strength of the Mjolnir 3. There's no one or few things that excite, but that means there is also nothing to annoy.

Clear MG is still a Focal with Focal transients and timbre. The only difference is the FR. I'm sure it would work, albeit differently from the 3F (which I think would a shoe in for the Clear MG without the worry for having a warm DAC). I see the Mjolnir 3 as offsetting certain natures of the Focals where the 3F enhances them. TBH, I see a lot of compatibility with all of the Focal cans. It's really up to tweaks, having a few different DACs on hand (why not, since TT people usually have several TTs, tonearms, carts), final touches on cables, etc. (cables last guys, always cables last, if you even believe in cables, of which I don't, but I'm still happy to recommend cables that I happen to like for specific setups).

    Exit stage left....
have been following along, as I've loved a few SS amps in my time: BW1, BW2, DSHA-3F and Ferrum Oor.
haven't heard Bliss, just a lot of triangulation reading - and now with MJ3.

I'm with @earnmyturns here, as we've followed similar paths of DACs / Amp configs and headphone styles-
would need to hear MJ3 to be sure but my majik eight ball is indicating the MJ3 has more "in common" with Ferrum Oor, than with the BW1/2 or Bliss.
Which all in all (if true) would be superb news and provide TOTL experience at lower $.
Due to Folkvangr, not in need of another big chassis space heater - but hearing MJ3 side by side with Oor is something a SBAF guru should certainly attempt.

I don't qualify as a guru here or anywhere else, but I just ordered an MJ3, so expect some side-by-side impressions with Oor in a couple of weeks (shipping and work permitting). To set the stage a bit more, I also own a 3F, different location. To me, 3F cannot get the dynamics and speed out of Caldera that Oor does. I really enjoy 3F with Verité open (even more than with Atrium, somehow) for an intimate, precise, detailed experience. Caldera with Oor is also precise and detailed, but "bigger" in dynamics and transient speed. So, very curious about where MJ3 will fit.

I watched an episode with my daughter. After about 5m she said something along the lines of how can you watch that racist crap...

P.S. Watching an old Iron Chef, I saw the Chinese Iron Shelf Chef take things out of a frying pan with his bare hands. Shaolin training in action!

I'm starting to suspect this may be key to audiophile level 50,000. As we usually instinctively (or learn to?) to find "one perfect DAC" as opposed to different flavors for different headphones, moods, etc... this is the genius of Schiit's various flavors of the Yggdrasil. Even starting out, one should probably splurge more on 2 or 3 different sounding cheap DACs to keep in permanent rotation while they discover their preferences. Treat it like polygamy, except with gear rather than people.

if Oor—with or without Hypsos—is anything like the Ferrum Erco (but now we're throwing a big ol' wrench in the bicycle wheels bc there's a DAC in the Erco, an ESS DAC that I'm not sure many here would be fans of if it were a standalone product, including you), which i don't think it is, but just one tiny little data point, that may or may not help you triangulate:

the MJ3 mops the floor w it. as in, the Erco sounded like roadkill—motionless and dead-eyed, but yet still somehow uncanny (gave off bad ((sounding)) vibes that one can't quite put their finger on).

(note here that I am talking ab audezes only tho, for both amps or the amp and the amp w onboard DAC, as that's that's the make of transducer i heard w both.)

yeah that's why i said it's prob not a good comparo, since the Erco is a DAC-amp, and is lower-tier...

nope, just a bad post lmao
