Just get the Bifrost Multibit and be happy knowing there are still two steps up - :)

I can only speak for myself, but I don't need to hear people farting, neither do I need to know from which exact point in the room the smell is coming from. …

If you'd already own the Yggdrasil you'd have nowhere to go if you want to stick to Schiit.

Schiit has one or more black Asgard 2 available, in case anyone is interested in pairing with Bifrost. Too bad no black Bifrost (or Gungnir Multibit) right now...guessing some will show up shortly after X-Mas (the returns).

I think the Bifrost Multibit is now officially broken in...I hit Megadeth's "Tornado of Souls" on my playlist and I have goosebumps. I thought I was sick of this track years ago, but this is like hearing it for the first time. Holy Schitt! The backing riffs usually tire me out about 2 minutes into the song, now they just flow like wine the whole way through.

    Scary. Very scary.

Original version or remastered? Hope it's the former 'cuz Mustaine (IMHO) screwed up the "remasters".

Ok, you inspired me. I had previously only kept my CD rips of the whole "remastered" line of Megadeth disks. Which has been bumming me out for awhile since I own both sets, so I just now went and dusted off my CDs of the original releases and re-ripped them to FLAC. Oh, and in case anyone is wondering, the remasters suck. Not in a good way. So now I'm listening to Rust in Peace. (JRiver->Wyrd->Bifrost Multibit->Valhalla2->hd650)

And, let me just say - "dang" (Will Smith voice). This is the best I've ever heard it. The Bifrost Multibit has a way of being really easy on the ears, which lets your ears relax and sink into the music without that slight apprehension that something is going to get harsh. My Favs on that album are (well the whole album is excellent, these are just top picks) Lucretia and Tornado Souls.

    Peace Sell's is next.

Edit - @rott funny we cross posted

The impression I get from reading people's experiences with the Schiity multibits (maybe more w/Bifrost Multibit) is that a lot of forgotten tracks are being rediscovered.

I ditched the remasters a LONG time ago. They sounded bad compared to the originals even on an iPod and earbuds. All my classic metal, I insist on the original releases (Maiden, Priest, Megadeth, Van Halen, etc). I have read about how some parts of the Megadeth albums were totally redone, but I've never A-Bed them enough to notice. I always found the original Rust slightly dry, but very dynamic and punchy. But getting that extra separation between the riffs and the vocals, I think, is what really put it over the top for me tonight.

Think I need to fire up Painkiller tomorrow. :)

The devil is in the details. I hear vocalists finishing their words (I can even understand the ones with foreign accents in my power metal), drumlines, riffs underneath vocals, clear start/stop points on keyboard instruments. It's pretty f'ing eye-opening...er, ear-opening.

And this is on a decidedly mid-fi setup.

Most importantly, I notice the quality of the recording on each album. Bonnie Tyler's "Faster Than the Speed of Night" SOUNDS like a poorly recorded early CD. W.A.S.P. still has that hazy sound they always had (this always annoyed me about them). My Guilty Gear Isuka soundtrack sounds like the brickwalled mess it is. It doesn't sugercoat these things, but really exposes them. I thought I might have been imagining these things before, but they're pretty obvious now.

Edit: Just a note: I had 12 hours nonstop at the office today with this thing. <3 <3

Silly Question: How long does it take for the Bifrost Multibit to break in?

I heard a night-day difference after 24 hours, particular in the treble and the imaging moved back (730 on my Lyr volume knob was as high as I could go the first day, after being burned in, I was able to get it to 830 with no problem). Today is day 3 of it being on...will report back.

Exactly 895.8936 hours for maximum break in, though the key is playing a loop of 9 min 3 sec pink noise, 1 min 32 sec of white noise, 5 min 1 sec of a 1MHz tone at -7.8dB, 2 mins exactly of silence, during which you must tap the top of the chassis LIGHTLY every 3.5 secs, in that order, over and over again. Then make sure to give the Bifrost Multibit a 4 min 55 sec break without any power every 52.7 hours. This is precision break in exercise I personally developed that will maximize the performance beyond anything you could ever imagine, tailored specifically to the Bifrost Multibit. Even the slightest, atomic error in this process basically means you lost your chance and will have to resort to peasant-level break in methods and forever be stuck with regular component performance.

Lol @Hands You cruel bastard. You tell me this now? I totally f'd it up. I guess I have to send mine back.

Well, on a more practical note, the @schiit guys say that Bifrost Multibit needs 4 hours to warm up. It's best to leave it on full time, and that is generally true of all DACs. As for extended "burn in", people don't seem to think there is any real need.

I agree - but I'd use Grey Noise instead of White!

You are both wrong. Loop the brown note for 66.6 hours. I highly recommend that you resist the temptation to listen in for changes...

Bifrost Multibit sounded pretty good as soon as I switched it on. In fact, it's at its best when I stop trying to evaluate the equipment and just take in the presentation as a whole and listen to music. I am one month in and still having a lot of those 'wtf' moments...

I like @jowls approach. I haven't heard the Bifrost Multibit, however I like to try to just enjoy the music without trying to analyze everything with a particular piece of gear - I do enough analyzing when mixing and mastering my own recordings. I just want to sit back and enjoy the music. I am not saying there is anything wrong with analyzing gear and taking measurements etc, in fact, I m glad we are lucky enough here to have extremely smart and capable members able to measure gear so the rest of us who are unable to do such things can take benefit from those measurements and learn how a particular piece of gear performs - so I am thankful to those who do measure the gear and give us graphs and measurements - it is extremely helpful - well except for @Hands - I am not sure about his Dr. Steve Brule method of measurements. :p
