Just wanted to say thanks for posting this how to, I'm marginally competent and was able to knock this out in under an hour.

Under an hour! Need to post YouTube video on Yggdrasil USB board speed change. $50 to whoever can beat my time. @zerodeefex excepted from this offer.

Recently posted Gungnir Multibit with LED alignment instructions. Wanted to make sure you saw it.

the only hair racing part for me was it was late and I had gotten back from the DC meet reconnecting the ribbon cable was a bit of bitch. It would have taken several hours without your detailed how to and a power screwdriver (schiit really loves screws)

I suspect Gungnir Multibit + alignment will take forever. I wish the RX1R II was decent for video. It's pretty bad, though. I asked @CEE TEE for some lighting recs but I might do a video this week if I can get a decent light setup for my desk.

    Hi

I signed up just now so I could Thank Marvey for the excellent upgrade instructions for the Gen 5 USB upgrade. It took me just under 2 hours to install the board into my Yggdrasil. I don't think I would have tried without the information Marvey provided but after reading and viewing your post I saw it was pretty much a straight forward process .
I am happy to state the installation went off with out a hitch and I am listening to the Gen 5 USB right now.

    Thanks Again !!
    Bob

Welcome to the forum! It's actually VERY nice to hear positive feedback and thanks. I'm sure Marv actually appreciated it.

@winders you completely missed the point of dislikes by disliking this post (which was very nice to see). Thanks to you, one of the other admins removed dislikes from the forum. It's all your fault.

Just did this on my Yggdrasil following Marv's instructions. Took about 40 minutes. Listening impressions to follow, but it at least works with no magic smoke. Thanks so much! There's no f'ing way I'd have attempted this without a guide.

If you are concerned about doing the careful flip in Step 2, you can do what I did and remove the six screws from the bottom chassis from underneath. Stand the Yggdrasil on the edge of a table and unscrew from below. Likewise when reassembling.

40 minutes for me, the hardest part was lining up the ribbon cable.

    Thanks Marv.

    Thanks, Marvey!!

I installed the Gen 5 USB board in a leisurely 30 minutes. It sure helps knowing exactly what screws to remove. It’s this kind of information that makes this place great.

    Thanks again!

Got the new Gen 5 board in, no problem. I was a little surprised at how much bigger the Gen 5 was, I'll let it play for a few days and give it a listen. My modded Singxer SU-1 w/LPS-1 > AES/EBU cable > Yggdrasil sounded better than the Gen 3.

I've had my Yggdrasil upgraded by Schiit Europe...but looks like they've forgot to upgrade it : I keep having "Schiit Gen 3 USB", no matter which driver I use on Win10, and how much I "clean" my HDD / registry from previous installations. And my Ubuntu install says the same (Gen 3).

Am I doing something wrong or did they just f**k up ?

Edit : they fucked up. Opened it following instructions on this thread, still a Gen3 within

They sent the board to me (+ refund), I've installed it today, no issue...except drivers are tricky :
    - Win10 automatic install works well (september 2017 drivers)...until you want ASIO on MusicBee
    - Schiit's Gen2/Gen5 Win10 / 1.01 don't work, there's no "CMEDIA USB 2.0 device" for them, no matter how clean the PC / registry are
    - 1.03 are ok, even if they are for Win7/8, I've ASIO from Gen5 USB
    - Windows does find an update for those drivers above (november 2016), it does install another ASIO USB device, but it works

    Strange all around o_O

    Thanks for the guide!

Was surprisingly easy but shat myself when i turned it on for the first time! I've never turned my Yggdrasil off and didn't realise it needed time to boot up, thought i bricked it.

:D happened to me too when I had to unplug it for the first time after months. Blinking LED oh no. This shock was a one-time experience I hope. :p

I’ve just upgraded my Yggdrasil A1 with the new ROM included in the Yggdrasil GS. It took about 35 minutes.

Big thanks to @purr1n to providing the Yggdrasil disassembly guide and to @schiit to selling the ROM separately.
