On the subject of external drives, what's the best way to put an external drive into a Mac? I've got it backed up via timewarp and I'd like to just put that hard drive in the computer since I'm running out of space on the 500 Gb one in the thing right now.

You want the external drive INSIDE of your MAC? I think the best thing to do would be to get an external portable hard drive that is MAC compatible and use Velcro to attach it to the outside of the case or back of the monitor (depending on your MAC model

Which Mac? If it's an old style tower Mac Pro, than you just need a screwdriver. http://macs.about.com/od/diyguidesprojects/ss/hdinstallmacpro.htm#step1

Another option would be to purchase a bigger internal hard drive for your MAC and just port all of your data from your 500GB drive over to it. Then you can put the 500GB drive that you replaced in a safe place, that way if you have data loss in the future on a bigger drive, at least you still have that 500GB one.

The problem is I'm running out of space on my 500 Gb internal drive. I've got a little more than 50 left, and at the rate I find new music, it'll be full in a month or two.

    AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!

I already have a drive, I just want to know if I can just take the bottom off the laptop and put it in, or if the programming needs to be reformatted or something and I'll have to get it professionally and expensively done for me. :p

Well if you replace the hard drive (which is extremely simple to do yourself) you would have to re-install the operating system then migrate your files from your old 500 GB HDD which would be difficult since the macbook pro can only hold 1 HDD. I think your best bet is to get an external hard drive. That way, you can keep your 500GB drive installed, operating system, files, data, and all and then use a MAC compatible USB external hard drive for extra storage space.

This looks like a good deal:
    http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Porta...sr=8-3&keywords=apple+1tb+external+hard+drive

$59.99 for 1 TB storage + 200GB cloud storage ($40.00 off right now)

I already have a thin enough drive and it's backed up through timewhatever on the Mac, so it should have the operating system and everything on it, right? And I'm not sure how to use it to store extra stuff on it that isn't on the 500 Gb drive already in the computer. I'd rather just take the old one out and put the new one in, which already has everything the old one does.

Not sure exactly what you have so here is my suggestion that will work, just takes some time.
    1) Buy an external Enclosure that is USB2 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817392032&ignorebbr=1) and new HDD (max height is 9.5 mm (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178627)
    2) Put new drive into enclosure and install OSX on it.
    3) Backup your current HDD through Time Machine.
    4) Open up laptop and swap HDD and put old HDD into enclosure (just in case)
    5) Boot new hard drive and restore from Time Machine
    6) Double check that all your stuff is where it should be, if yes, then done.

The $139 was a pricing error unfortunately. My order was canceled.

No, it was sold by a third party retailer called Alto Music and they will not honor the pricing mistake.
