That's a great price for a new pair, but as someone who has owned both at the same time I don't necessarily see the point. They are more similar than they are different. Unless your current pair of 600s are scuffed with worn pads etc. and you're looking for a refresh.

I dunno. I thought the latest revision to EL-8 open was pretty OK when I heard it recently. At that price I would love the opportunity to give them a more critical listen. (The closed version though is still hopeless IMHO.) I suspect these units will Be gone long before I can do any such follow up listening.

 

Did you try the 2016 closed model? I thought it was quite nice on my very brief listen, although there could have been some EQ applied without my knowledge.

 

I did. Although I had the opportunity for a longer listen I took them off very quickly as they were just not my cuppa (plus I didn't have use for closed cans of those size anyway and was more interested in the open Audeze offerings, other than the portable Sine).

Hastings is going out of business 10-30% off. I have no idea if their discounts apply to online orders. I ended up going on a vinyl spree even though it was only 10% for that.

 

Thanks for this tip! I would have never thought shipping overseas could possibly be cheaper than Amazon Prime fulfilled in the USA...but it's $120 cheaper for me right now.

There was a deal on Amazon about a week ago for around $330 w/ Prime shipping, but I had to wait for my ebay auction to close so I could fund this purchase and of course by the time the auction closed, Amazon's price had gone up $100.
