Tonian Labs records

I was browsing Madisound for parts and I noticed they actually sell a few albums now

I had never heard of Tonian Labs before. I looked them up and it's a speaker builder that likes using Fostex drivers and has been featured in some audiophile sites like 6moons and TNT-audio. The founder seems to be a competent audio engineer as well which is probably why Madisound is including these.

 

I have two of these, though I looked and could only find the one

they are not the most musically interesting recordings but they make cool demonstration disks. they are recorded live, direct to digital, the dynamics and impression of clarity are very high.

the CD is pressed on some sort of substrate that my old Philips CD-303 did not like and would refuse to read. it works fine in my CDM-1 based CD-650. oh, and the liner notes are in comic sans.



his speakers are cool, wideband drivers of his own design using what look like neodymium magnets and special paper, coupled to a ribbon tweeter. but I have seen some people trying to sell theirs unsuccessfully for a long time at a fraction of the new price. his website has been 'in construction' for over two years, I don't know if he's still in business
