I almost sent a PM to buy a Glass.

    Then I didn't.

Then I almost sent a PM to convince @dBel84 and Alex to send me one with my Crimson then I'd either send it back or pay the extra $500 for the Glass.

    Then I didn't.

As much as I want to buy a Liquid Glass, I don't have a need for one and have finally found my endgame setup. Downsizing soon.

I am going crazy tonight trying to decide if i should pull the trigger or not... really it's not a lot of risk at $2k as it seems like if i had to i could easily sell it and recoup the funds (although i have a feeling it would end up in my system for a long time!) Been wanting to step up into the world of big boy amps for awhile now... as much as i love my Freya/Jot combo i really want to have the opportunity to experience an amp of the Liquid Glass caliber... have yet to hear any amps in the upper tier from EC, DNA, Cavalli, Decware, Ampsandsound....

I'm know I'm not helping but I don't think you would be disappointed.

I know this might not be the correct thread to ask, so please forgive... i am doing research as i type this but seeing as how time is limited...what the heck... right now my primary headphones are modded hd650 and he-560(soon to be jerg modded)... paired with my system i really like both headphones as they are definitely quite a bit different though i really want to hear the new zmf dynamics (mostly the auteur but eikon and atticus as well) the new klipsch hp-3, focal clear, Aeon Flow Open, code-ex & or code sex, and a modded hd800...haven't heard any of them but have a feeling one of them will be my next headphone purchase. ( i can see myself growing away from the he-560 though i have yet to hear it modded but i will never get rid of hd650) That said what headphones have any of you fine folks paired with liquid glass, what were your favorites and why. (knowing sources would also be excellent info to have!)

Again, if this is not the proper place for this short side discussion just ignore me and move on! ....back to researching the liquid glass! I know if these amps end up on head-fi at $2k they will go fast!

We need a thread or something for all of the people who got Cavalli gear. Hopefully someone in SoCal got a Glass so I can hear one.

You should get a Glass instead of the Crimson. Given your preferences (and headphones) seems like a better fit.

Haven’t heard either LC or LG but I read the former is more energetic/aggressive while the latter is more forgiving/laid-back (of course it will depend on the tubes used). I chose LG because headphones like HD800 and Code-X lie on the brighter side of the spectrum. I’m particularly excited for the LG/Code-X combo.

I was simply making the observation that, at least in Luckbad's world, moar tubes=moar betterer :) In other words, tonality beats everything else

Thought I’d post a brief little blurb about the general sound of the different Cavalli amps, as I was fortunate enough to be a product tester for Alex during the good ol days. Obviously this is just one audiophool’s opinion! Grain of salt, etc.

The stock Cavalli sound is a slightly “musical” take on an accurate / reference sound. Slightly warm, but extremely good definition. No mud here. The dimensionality and sense of space always stands out to me with Cavalli amps. Has an extremely prominent sense of being there in the midst of a recording.

Tonally rich but not too colored. More laid back than most Eddie Current designs and less dry than Gilmore, while more clear and less “tubey” than Woo or Decware. For my tastes it’s an ideal balance.

Glass (LG): In some sense this amp is a chameleon, because its sound really does depend largely on the tubes you’re using. Basically this is a tube roller’s dream. Heck, I didn’t even like rolling tubes but enjoy experimenting bc this amp makes it so easy. It also accepts a WIDE assortment of tubes, even more than listed when you factor in adaptors. Sounds surprisingly good with inexpensive tubes and even the stock tubes too, so no need to spend a lot of extra $$. Hybrid design at its best.

Gold (LAu): The power house of the Cavalli family. The driver control on this guy is really something else. IMO this makes it THE amp for planars. Personally I’ve never heard another amp that makes em shine like this one. I have yet to find a planar hp that doesn’t sound awesome with this amp. Despite being solid state, I think it has qualities of a good tube design.

Crimson / Cobalt (LC): A slightly more aggressive take on the Cavalli sound IMO. I really really like this amp with Audez’e cans. The sound to me is more forward and immediate than other Cavalli amps, but it’s not fatiguing thankfully

As someone who loves them both I can say that imo, with my own 800, I prefer the crimson and not slightly, and it's the amp I won't really sell unless life circumstances demands it. I would though advise you to try it someone because maybe someone would like a trade.

Edit - wish i had the chance to listen to Gold though...i don't know if I will ever get the chance while in Europe.

Thank you for the reviews! As you rightfully pointed out, the Glass sounds just like the tubes you put into it. If a more aggressive sound was desired, you can always swap in tubes like the 6SN7W/ECC32/6SN7WGT to make it sound more exciting/aggressive. That's why I love the Glass so much. It's like having multiple high end tube amps - you can swap tubes to make it sound to match the cans or your taste. The amp scales up very well with top of the line TS BGRP tubes for example, as compared to the stock tubes.

You might as well say whether it's a 6 or 4 screw as that will be asked.
