Have y'all tried the subout from the Vanatoo?

For my short demo time with the Zero, using the subout changed their character a bit for the better (no longer trying to pump out "full" range from a tiny driver)

I bought my daughter the Zeros this past Christmas, as well as a cheap sub (Emo x8) to round it out. I demo'd them on my desk and was impressed for their size - my expectations were rather low and they easily became something I wanted to keep around longer. For the price and simplicity vs the single powered speaker options it's an easy win.

For a bedroom / teenager system it's surprisingly good and simple (no AVR, no Integrated amp, etc) - I'm happy to know she regularly annoys her mom and stepdad by cranking it up

I haven't heard the T1 Encore but I'm intrigued now after hearing the Zeros.

I have the T1Es and finally decided to take them off small stands on my desk and use them on stools in my smallish living room. Whoa! Bringing them out away from the walls on stands makes the sound so much more spacious and clear. On the desk they were basically the T0s with a bit more bass but here on stands in the living room they're a proper little hifi setup.

My recommendation is go T0 is you want desk monitors. Go T1E if you want a surprisingly good sounding, affordable small room all in one system.

Bought transparent zero due to some recommendations on this forum.

Sounds pretty bad, bit better than jbl305s though. Sharing another data point.

Relegated to TV duty to hear baby Yoda coo better.

Just curious if you're bypassing the internal DAC.(?)

I've heard that these are crap w/o the DSP voodoo they implement, but I don't have any 1st hand experience.

You can't bypass the digital side on these. They use digital crossovers into class D amps.

LOL you fell for that crap? It's a 4" muddy desktop speaker that needs the dip switches set up to not make it mud. It's quite good then for that small speaker with no bass, only midrange and treble for youtube video use but not worth 300 bucks. The JBL 104 equivalent is about 100 bucks a pair.

Considering you can get the Rokit 5 G4 for 360 a pair with stands for a decent small, warm nearfield and the HS8 for 520 new a pair this holiday season, you gotta be kidding me if you bought this and expected it to be good. Don't believe in DSP trickery or that someone has magic powers to cobble together cheap chinese parts into something legitimately good, sell it you for nothing, and still make a profit. The good active stuff costs 1000+ a pair for good reasons.

You can bypass if you use the analog in, but your points are taken.[IMG]

The crossover is digital. Analog input just goes through an ADC before hitting the DSP chip.

There's no bypass. The analog gets converted back to digital then thrown through the onboard DSP. No point putting a DAC in front of them.

I checked with Vanatoo before placing an order.

Edit: This is for the Transparent One Encore, no idea if you guys are talking about this or the Zeros, I'd guess that the same applies.

The same applies for both models since the entire amplification system is digital, so not an analog-pulsed class D but digitally pulsed with the processed digital signal where the crossover and other tweaks are implemented like Psal said. But maybe Psal was referring to the One Encore as the V candidate? At a point you have to wonder what kind of engineering is gonna make speakers of that size do bass well.

I do agree with @Psalmanazar that they sound SUPER boxy at default settings. I ended up reaching out to Vanatoo directly when I first got mine because I was going to return them. I had tried boosting treble via the remote and they directed me to the manual (who reads manuals these days?).

It is an PIA to use the dip switches for boosting FR - but it works. V-T-B switches on back and make sure you follow the manual.

In the end, I am pretty happy with mine. Keep in mind I had very specific size requirements to work in my setup. With the treble boosted via dip switches they sound very good, just lacking bass but no longer boxy. I am using them as nearfield desktop solution and never need them to get real loud. I also don't mind them being bass light, as I have small kids in the house.

If you have the same needs I do, they are worth the $ because most in the same size range sound like garbage. If you are not as constrained as I was in my search, I am sure there a number of better options.

Damn, good to know. I just use them for mindless TV bullshit.
    Thanks for the info.
