I cannot seem to find the official rug liner used in the HD800 mods... the thick one that seemed to work best for people. If anyone has an extra set laying around they can spare, I'd love to get my hands on it.

The OG rug liner is unobtanium afaik. I got some a while back from a kind SBAFer who had a small piece left over.

GLWsearch, and let us know what you find.

I'm not sure whether this is the one you are looking for. This one came with my old hd800 but I never installed it(I use eq instead).
If you need it, I can mail it to you.

@sealand1 great SBAF spirit! However, the material doesn't look the same as the og rug liner. Instead of squares/ravioli shaped, they are more like pill/capsule shaped with a rough texture I believe.

Oh, I see, also the material is not very thick, about 1mm.

Yeah I actually have this already, and it does a decent job, but wanted to see what the thicker liner does.

I check from time to time looking for a replacement. The gaps in the Aliexpress one look a touch too large to match. I found a rug pad on Amazon that is nearly identical in shape and thickness, but it doesn't have the subtle flocking of the natural rubber of the OG material. It isn't as dense, either, but I don't know which characteristics mattered most. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B8RVQC1T/ I did find a place that showed the old material in a picture, but unfortunately, it was not the same when I received it. It has the natural rubber flocking, but the gaps are too big and the material is thinner.

I basically tried dozens and dozens of materials for the mod. It’s a shame that this stuff isn’t made anymore because it was, frankly, the best performing material I could find.

I think I spent a few thousand dollars on rug liners and other materials to find this one originally.

If that's the stuff... then I may have a couple rolls of it in my shop... I use it to line tool drawers (bought them at Sears years/years ago). I can look when I get back from Chicago this weekend

Tagging @Armaegis because of his material science and metallurgy background. Other material science backgrounds feel free to chime in. Anyways, just a rhetorical question - would "the original" rug liner have already significantly degraded by now? Not to the point that it's falling apart, but to the point that the sonic traits may vary by now vs original?

I ask as I imagine most rug liners that look like this are made largely of a rubber-like materials, which after 8-10 years, even just in storage inside, have most likely started to degrade at least a little bit by now. More so if the material was subject to temperature swings in a garage, etc. Would hate for people to jump through hoops for nothing so to say.

Very difficult to answer that one. Oxygen, sunlight, moisture, those are the usual culprits which will degrade a material. If it contains a plasticizer, then offgassing over time may or may not be a factor, though if sealed up it would lessen the effect.

FWIW I've had mine for years, ever since this mod was first posted, stored on a shelf, and showing no deterioration.

BTW two pieces off to ColtMrFire.
