Its freaking awesome. I really enjoy the whole Impulse Quartet 8 CD set, though if I had to choose, It think I'd pick the individual albums. Some of his Blue Note stuff I enjoy, too, and I OD'd a little on his Atlantic stuff.
It's easily #1 for me, although I love most of his work. If you haven't spent time with it, I highly recommend his album with Johnny Hartman. Their rendition of Billy Strayhorn's Lush Life is superb.
I find it hard to rank since so many of his albums has something to say, from the time of recording them that is. I feel each stand well on their own. But of course, at the time when ALS was released and looking at what other artists were doing...it's just WOW!
