I have no clue why I'm still with Tidal. I should try Qobuz. It's MQA that makes me want to go away from Tidal. On my system, MQA albums sound like crap. Some albums, such as the new Carly Rae Jepsen album, have MQA and non-MQA version, which is the only reason I haven't actually left.
I’m also looking at Tidal and wodering if I need their hi-res version. Is MQA only in their Hifi Plus service? Is the regular plain Hifi version CD quality (and without MQA)?
I’m on a 6 month free trial with Apple Music and I find that it’s pretty good. Very very few albums I can’t find and everything is lossless. Some streams are 24/192
@joch - Apple Music is available for Android and I know I’ve seen installations of Android on the Raspberry Pi. Not sure how that works with Pi2 AES but it’s all Linux based so it’s possible
I'm mainly asking because I've been using Plex and really enjoying Plexamp, and Plex has tidal integration. I buy all my lossless albums that aren't on Bandcamp from qobuz, but qobuz streaming doesn't integrate with plex.
I have Qobuz as I got the yearly subscription at discounted rate during BF. Apple Music has all the music that I enjoy but there is no way to stream Hi-res from Apple music to a streamer and that's the only reason keeping me away from Apple Music once the trial is over.
@LetMeBeFrank apart from Plex, Tidal also has Tidal connect. Qobuz really need to stepup. Roon is like an essential tool at this point to enjoy Qobuz. Whereas Tidal has Tidal connect, Plex and Roon integration.
I want to use Qobuz. It sounds better. But the catalog is tiny and I hate the app the way they don’t separate EPs from main albums is maddening. I spend so much time clicking through a million albums to find the ones that are actual albums. So I use Tidal mainly. Much better catalog and UI. And works with a Pi2AES. Until there’s an alternative which there probably won’t be, I’ll keep using Tidal.
