    So am I. In my ignorance, I always thought speakers only worked if they had boxes around them. Could not have been more surprised!

    Thanks for the resources. I just tried playing around with the Excel thing a bit. Now to read the theory. After I learn about OB, I will attempt to learn about horns.

    Amazing, @Cspirou . Very nice.

    I'm aware that there is just as much calculation and science in the design of OB speakers as there is with boxes, but given the difference in the amount of woodwork compared to boxes with complex internal bracing, etc, I wonder why the box thing became the default?

    @Thad E Ginathom - OB speakers need really wide baffles to sound right, otherwise the wave from the back of the driver cancels out with the front. Narrow baffles with low WAF don’t really work. However you can do an H-frame pretty narrow, like the linkwitz LX521.
