It’s an underrated system. My X-Men vs Streetfighter import was absolute bliss way back when. Wish I kept my copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga, it’s worth a pretty penny nowadays.
Radiant Silvergun was such an overrated Shmup. Paid $200 for it ten years ago, sold it within a month. Soukyugurentai was leagues better than RS, then again, I do like the older Compile STGs and some of the Compile folks later founded Raizing. TFV was great except terrible framerates.
The Capcom ports were great with the RAM carts. Too bad they didn't port the other non-fighting games Capcom games to the Saturn (19XX, their other CPS2 Beat 'em ups that wasn't Dungeon and Dragons).
Ah hell yes, 19xx was my first actual arcade 1cc.
Spend a lot of time and credit on it.
RSG got such amazing soundtrack ,too bad the arcade mode kinda force you to learn chaining for resources and gun power which kinda put high learning curve on it (ikaruga is much more streamlined).
@YMO- Radiant Silvergun is such a departure from the rest of the shmup world. It really is a puzzle game with lasers. I love it as a piece of art and I think it is a masterpiece of game design. I don’t think it is comparable to games like Battle Garegga or Progear- it is its own thing. For some reason it way harder for me than something like Donpachi or Gradius/Salamander. Dunno why.
I'm sick of scripted puzzle shmups. I'll take vertical shooting games from the Toaplan era over the current era. Love Garegga but the suicide concept gets old fast.
I feel the same way about Cave games. I guess I just get bored with the patterns, though Progear is the exception and prolly still my favorite shmup of all time. Also, I do like a lot of the vertical shmup on the PC Engine
