    1. I flat out prefer Modi MB to Bifrost MB. I think it is a better DAC overall. Jason says no one will believe me. And that is like how I like it.
    2. With Jotunheim and HD650K and HD800V mods, I prefer Modi MB to Gungnir MB. This is running with a CDT and using SDPIF using coax.
    3. The iFi Micro is a good SPDIF converter.
    4. Vali 2 would be an extremely bad choice with Andromeda. The outputs are cap coupled and do not expect near 2 ohms in the bass. There will be massive bass roll-off below 40Hz.
    5. Magni 2U sounds dull and boring compared to Vali 2, but offers more flexibility and lower cost.
    6. Lots of cheap tubes to change tone of Vali 2. Just ask around here.

Thanks to all above for replies and advice/opinions. Yeah, that Vali 2 FR curve for the Andro is way too rolled off. So for now, it looks like Modi Multibit + Jot, just have to save up a bit more. I guess the extra real estate of the Jot will give me a place to put the iDSD. Still a fairly portable-around-the-house rig.

Just need to recover from the dent those Andros made to my bank account :D

Wait, you prefer the Modi Multibit over the Gungnir Multibit with the Joti (for those particular modded cans)? Why is that? Did I miss a post about this?

Speaking of drivers, is schiit's cmedia usb2 chip now natively supported in Windows 10? I hooked my Modi Multibit up to a different PC a couple of days ago (that I used to run with my Yggdrasil). I removed the schiit gen 3 driver, plugged in the Modi Multibit and tried to install the latest gen 2 drivers. The install failed after repeated errors telling me to plug in the device (it was). After a couple of attempts, I looked down and realized the device (labeled "Schiit USB Audio Gen 2") was already showing up in my sys tray. Subsequent attempts to manually update the driver from device manager, pointing it to the schiit driver folder, returned a message that Windows had detected the latest cmedia driver was already installed.

Anyone else encounter this? Whatever these drivers are, Modi Multibit is sounding wonderful hooked up to my F3 clone and Omega Super 7 mk2's.

    1. Darker tonality of Modi Multibit suites Jotunheim's brighter tonality. Gungnir Multibit has more prickly treble. Modi Multibit is smoother.
    2. Jotunheim has a hard time taking advantage of what Gungnir Multibit really can do: staging, micro-stuff, etc.
With an EC amp, it would be Gungnir Multibit all the way.

Good to know. When I eventually upgrade my DAC maybe I'll keep the Modi Multibit and move it back to the desktop to pair it back up with the Jotunheim.

    @gixxerwimp

Pick Vali 2 if soundstage and tube awesomeness are important to you.

Pick Jotunheim if you love fast, powerful sound in an amazingly versatile amp/preamp.

EDIT: For Andromeda Jot is better for sure.

If Andros are important to you, get the Jot. They're not the best pairing but they aren't a total mismatch like the Andros are with the Vali 2. If the 650s are your other cans, then the Jot is a no brainer.

    Which Ifi Micro Model?

Any USB-SPDIF converter recommendations under $500? Would you recommend a USB-SPDIF converter over whatever Schiit USB thingamajig you were teasing a few pages ago?

I have the iFi micro iDSD and have mentioned it a few times, so I think that's the one @Marvey means. I also asked about my micro in the the iDSD Black thread and @Torq said it was decent as a DDC.

Just this afternoon I realized that I could use my micro iDAC2 as a DDC and keep my iDSD free for other use. Would give me an excuse to get a Fulla 2 with its big volume knob for work. I would assume that the iDAC2 would be reasonably close to the iDSD as a DDC since it's supposed to be an iDSD with only 1 DAC chip, fewer buttons and no battery (possibly no built-in iPurifier whatever good that does).

Edit: Not worth the effort asking iFi if the micro iDAC2 and iDSD would be equivalent converting USB to S/PDIF as they would come back with their standard reply of, "Sorry, can't reveal those top secret tidbits. Can't let our competition find out what's in our secret "fighter jet technology" sauce."

    See this:
You might be able to find one used on eBay for under $500.

I've been looking at an E22 solution. I have a gaming PC with an extra mobo slot so this could work.

Hmm this is interesting. Yes I plugged in and tried to use the ddriver link on schiit for win10. I am pretty sure I did not have the option to change my "speakers" output to schiit usb audio gen 2 though.

I had to install the old drivers that are listed below the win 10 drivers. These are the win7,8 one i think. Version 1.03 zip. The computer restarted and then it worked.

Anyway its date is 4/03/2013 and version 8.0.11.160. This was done yesterday.

Today after reading your post there is no option to update drivers when I go to the settings in control panel.

What version and date is yours?

Given that he said to "sit tight for a few months", I would sit tight for a few months.

Any chance of getting a comment on whether this new item will make having a Wyrd in the chain obsolete?

I´m just about to order a Modi Multibit (Schiit-Europe has been sold out for a while and are getting new stock within a few days) and I´m wondering if I should include a Wyrd or or not.

Either way, the Wyrd and Modi Multibit should still have decent resale value.

Or a iFi IEMatch. The Vali will see a ~16Ω load and this will mitigate the bass roll-off.

Works perfectly for me at work.

Interesting. I'll take my questions to the Andromeda thread to keep this one on topic.
