I am likely the dumb one who needs to retract the warning. I was not aware (no idea how) that their was an edition that was not cncd and didn't have the capacitive switch. That was the first thing that struck me and the rest is just tacky. Lots of small changes that look like cost cutting. I am a little dissapointed that this could be legit.

I will ping AC and find out from the man.. dB

Update : AC confirmed that the final run was indeed painted and that this was likely the real thing,

My apologies for the false alarm.

I'd hold out for a better one. That one looks gnarly; the pads are kinda gross. The one I sold recently for the same price, in the 238xx range, was in much better shape + with new pads.

very true, they is gnarly ASF, I shoulda mentioned in my post, but the LSN crowd likely won't care--they just want to know the drivers are in good shape.

new genuine Senn pads and headband are back in stock now, but they likely also have some of the older ones (some who argue the older the pad, the better) those lying around, too...

Both are still available, and both are now $500, and both have a "make an offer" option.

Well, I threw out what I thought would be a ridiculous offer and the seller accepted $375 for the one with free shipping - so thanks! I'm not really sure what I'm getting into but I thought it'd be fun.

Awesome! I'm a huge fan, obviously, and there's plenty of folks around the internet who will be quick to tell you it's one of the best R2R DACs from that era. With PCM63 chips, it's at least representative. And if you don't love it, it shouldn't be hard to get your cash back at that price!

If you want someone to take a look at it, or do any service on it, Greg Palma at Noble Electronics will be your best bet. I see you got the gold face plate one, so, it's should already be Series III. It's possible to add a balanced output as an "upgrade", but my understanding is it's just extra circuitry getting you there, and it's not truly balanced all the way back to the chips.

Hope you enjoy, and we should kick up an impressions thread so you can share some thoughts after you've given it a listen.

Funny, when I googled the model originally that was one of the few results, so I'd already emailed him to see if he was still actively working on them, I'll let you know what comes of that. This might become my bridge DAC as I (plan to) move from an Yggdrasil to a Holo Spring.

I know this the Used Deals thread, not an impressions thread so I will not say any more than this - but I got that EAD-7000 and hooked it up last night. It really is something, and for $375 I feel like I won the lottery a little bit. My early, quick impressions (and keep in mind most listening was done with 2 hours warmup) are that the 7000 is more musical, more compressed. Reminds me, signature-wise, of the BF2. The Yggdrasil A2 is more incisive, with more distinct separation (I will also say more expansive, but I think that's a function of the separation). I had my daughter's friend over yesterday and her Dad is in entertainment - not an audiophile but he's semi-pro with audio production and I got him to listen to the EAD on both the Glenn OTL and the Stratus. He said that the Glenn was more 'crunchy' and hard hitting than the Stratus. My opinion, so far, is that the Yggdrasil is better able to stretch and stage the Stratus, but the 7000 is musical and molasses-y (also shoutout to @RestoredSparda because his Sophia 274B works great in the Glenn [but did not beat the Phillips Miniwatt GZ34 in the Stratus]).

I'm trying to do a more direct A/B of the two DACs for the Zen Stream, and I have an Amazon coax splitter en route, but my goal is move on from the Yggdrasil A2/Zen Stream through to the EAD 7000 on my path to a Holo Spring/Red combo. If anyone can suggest the best way to feed the Zen Stream (coax-out) to 2 DACs. I'm all ears.

not all PCM63 DACS are made the same, big big big delta between something like the Theta Gen Va and the bone-stock Adcom GDA 600 I had for a lil while, whilst in-between DACs, not sure where EAD fits in that spectrum, but ya, learnt a lesson ab BB chips of that model, they can't overcome a meh analog, PSU or output section...

is it as easy to switch voltages on the cd650 like it is other players of its era, some jumpers and fuse swap?

if yall come across a magnavox cdb650, it's the same machine internally, just branded for NA and already 110v.
