There is an option for Gen 5 or Unison.... it's an extra $100 bucks for Unison.

Isn't there a set of graphs where I compare a lot of Schiit DACs in thread somewhere? Can someone find it?

Never heard MIB but GS destroys LIM on a plankton level, I directly A/B'd them.... it was like going from clean, neat buttoned up sound on the LIM, to a soupy organic sea of musical information on the GS. LIM is great but it's hi-fi sounding next to GS. LIM staging was a bit less upfront/in your face. Can't remember bass, but I think the bass on LIM was tighter.

There’s an option to have Unison instead of Gen 5.

These were from the LIM thread, just a sec I'll find the one with MIB inserted to the bar graph. I D/Led these graphs when triangulating which version of Yggdrasil I was going to try first. I'm not paying $900 to try MIB, I'll wait for a loaner or used cards.

Fwiw I picked up an A2 w/unison for $1350 shipped and fees included, then A1 cards w/GSrom for $180 shipped. The GS rom was already installed in the A2...

    Thanks for friends' input!

Schiit says the only reused part is Analog 1 card. Besides the AD5791 DAC chips, is the output stage (opamp or a different device) also integrated on the card? If not, does it mean that the GS2 has a newer output stage different from GS and thus a more or less different sound signature (e.g., greater clarity or blacker background)?

The GS and GS2 have the exact same output stage. The Analog 1 card has the AD 5791 DAC, followed by a discrete output stage.

What you’re getting with GS2 that is different than the original GS is the option for Unison (couldn’t do that with the original GS without finding a way to self-install) and its in the Yggdrasil+ chassis, which is honestly a pretty good deal in and of itself - NOS mode option, smaller form factor, much easier to open up, remote.

I’m gonna sit on the fence with MIB for now like JK47. More reviews might tip me over, but I’m just really loving my system right now and I’m finally to the point where I’ve gotten through my thick skull that when I have a good thing going and then get upgraditis and make a big change, 75% of the time I throw off synergy and wish I didn’t make that change. Why throw $800 at a problem I don’t have?

If you have a setup that sounds damn good, don't consider sidegrading to GS2. What you have in place probably already works in respect to the Total-System-Synergy concept espoused here. Please, don't chase the dragon and know that desire is endless.

Only upgrade under the following conditions:
    1. It will be a true upgrade
    2. The sonic traits of the GS2 are what you are looking for
    3. You can easily afford it
If any of the above is not true, then DO NOT PROCEED. Grasping at shit leads people down a dark path. Even if the GS2 is the right path for you, I would never tell you. Ask just @ChaChaRealSmooth.

Some of us chase the dragon like a donkey on viagra. It doesn't make sense until the sequel.

I'm going to lose a lot of sleep pondering the lexical ambiguity of this sentence.

Was it you or the donkey who took the Viagra?
Was it safe for either of you to be riding in such a state?
Did it actually aid in catching the dragon, and was the dragon pregnant afterwards?

My understanding is Gungnir A2 is of the same "colder" vein as Yggdrasil A1/GS2, while Gungnir A1 is more of the "rich" variety of Yggdrasil A2/OG.

My personal experience is consistent with that, although I haven't heard Gugnir A2.

However, if the delta between Gungnir A1 and Yggdrasil A2/OG is the same as the delta between Gungnir A2 and Yggdrasil A1/GS2, then it's a one step upgrade. But again, Gungnir A2 is more technically competent from what I've gleaned, so I'm guessing it's more a 1/2 to 2/3rd step. I was always slightly dissatisfied with Gungnir A1 and the Yggdrasil A2 is in my mind the promise of that sound fulfilled.

IMHO the GS is a clear upgrade to the A2 while largely keeping its tonality.
It has more depth, better layering and clarity. I perceived it as a clear upgrade back then comparing them directly
on my V281 and my Woo Audio Wa22 out of a LYNX PCIE card and Tidal (had crappy mostly Amazon cables back then and no power filter for my atrocious electricity here). I had the Yggi on AES and the Gungnir Multibit over BNC SPDIF with a AES adapter, in this constellation the Yggi sounded more detailed than the Gungnir Multibit A2.

Has anyone been successful in buying the GS/A2 firmware from Schiit lately? I’ve been emailing back and forth this morning and they’re telling me the GS already has the A1 cards and isn’t a firmware upgrade.
