Schiit Yggdrasil GS

GS already has the most current firmware update for the A1 cards. A2 is not firmware, it’s a different board entirely. What firmware exactly are you trying to get?

 

Sorry, completely forgot the context! I have an Yggdrasil A1 and I’d like to upgrade it to a GS.

 

Your original post (“GS/A2”) makes me think you may have phrased your email in a way that confused Schiit support into thinking you already have a GS Yggdrasil or similar. Make it clear to them that you have an original A1 Yggdrasil with the original firmware (not GS) and want to purchase the EEPROM chip to upgrade the A1 firmware to GS.

 

I definitely get that- in my initial email, I opened with “I have an Yggdrasil A1 that I’ve installed a Unison USB upgrade in.
Second email, I explained that I don’t want to buy a new Yggdrasil or upgrade boards, and I’d like to buy the rom chip that upgrades an A1 to a GS. I also tried namedropping Laura, but was told “GS is not a firmware update, but repurposed A1 cards.”

Might just let it go for now. I’m really happy with how A1 sounds, regardless.

I agree though, don’t freak out about it. Everything I’ve read says the difference between the firmwares sonically is not huge. Even seen a few people prefer the original firmware.

 

Nah, it’s not really a huge deal. Whether they’re not understanding or if they no longer want to sell the part, I’m fine with it and I didn’t really wish to continue the conversation.

Indeed the GS is a chassis upgrade. Anyone still needing this should ask for the A1 firmware or ROM chip. Yes, the GS does have this and anyone who sends in an A1 to get the chassis upgrade will indeed get their firmware upgraded to the last ROM (there were only two, the original and the updated).

 

Well, GS2 includes the Yggdrasil+ chassis, so in that sense it’s a chassis upgrade, sure. But yeah I agree that just saying you need an A1 firmware chip could work out to be less confusing for Schiit support. Doubt they have any of the original firmware chips available for A1, they would all be the upgraded firmware anyway.

 

The GS/A2 rom chip is labeled "YD218" just in case anyone else needs to ask Schiit.
