Get well soon. First start with ice packs exposed to global warming caused by body heat to cool down the ankle joint. You will not kill polar bears in the process.

    Can you walk on it?

@Gaspasser can walk on it lightly, using a trekking pole as a cane today. Putting most of my weight on my other foot.

Get an X-ray, if negative then do whatever you want to help. Anything is better than pain pills.

A "bad sprain" could be a stress fracture. Definitely get it checked out

Got the day off tomorrow, will get it checked out by the doc and will probably still have time for the acupuncture.

I’ve broken and sprained both ankles. It sucks, I hope you feel better soon. Remember Rest Ice Compression & Elevation.

Alternatively for pain management, you can just smoke some of whatever @Deep Funk is having ;)

I've successfully treated a lot of sprained ankles with acupuncture over the years. You will need a course of treatment and you will need to wrap it, avoid reinjury, etc. It will get better. You can pm me if you have any questions.

Keep it warm both during the day and during the night (increases blood flow which aids healing), get good nutrition (proper food), don't drink alcohol, get good sleep. Unless something is broken it should heal well. Wrapping it up isn't a bad idea for stability, compression and warmth.

Better today, lot of the swelling has gone down. Can walk a bit more naturally today. Doc said lots of what folks recommended yesterday is a good idea.
