Weren't those isolated incidents related specifically to Focal Clear frying? I for some reason always tend to plug/unplug headphones while my Lyr 3 is on, not sure if that's the safest/best thing to do.
I have the Lyr 3 and Clear pairing. No problems so far, been using it for almost a year together. I unplug the headphones before i power the amp on or off though.
One of the incidents was a power surge and the guy didn’t have it on a surge. Another seemed like a bad tube.
The one that made me laugh was the guy had it on full blast and turned it on. Some tubes make more of a noise when they click on. I have two of the same tubes and one is dead quite and the other makes a little noise.
Something blew on mine. Plenty of smoke, killed left channel on 650 (and one other headphone I used to plug in and test). Was working just fine up till then, or at least for the few hours I had it. Wasn’t during power on or off, nor set loud. IIRC tube was fine and continued to work elsewhere. Shit happens, and Schiit covered it all for me without issue.
Just to be safe i always power on Lyr3 for a minute, make sure volume is turned down plug in headphones enjoy and then I unplug my Clears before I turn the amp off. I was told by one of the Focal dealers that with sensitive low impedance drivers and a powerful tube amp such as the lyr 3 that best bet would be to follow that procedure. Haven't had any issues doing it that way.
I turn on the lyr 3 before I plug in my headphones but I do think I turn it off before I unplug them. I really need to get into the habit off unplugging them first. I’ve heard of other amps (guessing older ones) of destroying headphones if you werent careful.
