Have you checked out any dolby vision content yet? Much superior to standard hdr10 which can look a little dark sometimes

it’s nothing to worry yourself over. Ive seen a few side my side comparisons and its basically which one the studio did a better job on. Dolby Vision should be better but my guess is that they spend more time on hdr10 cause more people have it.
Funny enough most of the time dv is dark but has more shadow detail.

I like that dolby can change scene by scene, while hdr10 is a template applied to the whole program. The most noticeable change I've scene was on Westworld season 1. HDR made all daytime scenes look like late afternoon, while DV looked more natural and less warm /dark.

I was weak and preordered it as soon as I saw it.

The stock HD650 has a pleasant mid-bas bump and smooth highs. There is music that benefits from a flatter FR curve. What remains is how your audio systems feeds the signal to the HD650 and whether you like what you hear.

Maybe I’ll finally take the plunge and try modding it.

There are loads of impressions of modded HD650 vs stock on here. Just because we hype it to High Heaven doesn't necessarily mean it'll be your cuppa tea, so if you haven't yet the KISS mod thread might be a fun read!

Something blew on mine. Plenty of smoke, killed left channel on 650 (and one other headphone I used to plug in and test). Was working just fine up till then, or at least for the few hours I had it. Wasn’t during power on or off, nor set loud. IIRC tube was fine and continued to work elsewhere. Shit happens, and Schiit covered it all for me without issue.

Just to be safe i always power on Lyr3 for a minute, make sure volume is turned down plug in headphones enjoy and then I unplug my Clears before I turn the amp off. I was told by one of the Focal dealers that with sensitive low impedance drivers and a powerful tube amp such as the lyr 3 that best bet would be to follow that procedure. Haven't had any issues doing it that way.

I turn on the lyr 3 before I plug in my headphones but I do think I turn it off before I unplug them. I really need to get into the habit off unplugging them first. I’ve heard of other amps (guessing older ones) of destroying headphones if you werent careful.

Its a much better quality psu then the stock wall wort.
I’ve see several posts and 2 articles on it with the mani. I doubt the claims of it making it sound better. It will be very easy to verify if it really does lower the noise floor significantly.

So you bought an expensive AC transformer with some filtering? The Mani doesn't take DC which is normally what an LPS circuit will output. From the Schiit FAQ: "It has a linear power supply (no switchers here!) with an AC wall-wart off-board for even lower noise." I mean as long as it puts out 16VAC, it shouldn't hurt.

More or less will settle my curiosity on if this will actually help. Worst case I’ll sell it and I can get this stupid idea out my head.

Sorry to hear that you had hernias on both sides. Those darn intestines right? Hope you have a smooth recovery!
