Main difference seems to be that last week they had the amps mic'd up to the PA speakers. Whereas this week we hear music straight from the guitar amps.

So many FOH mixers simply don't know how to handle feedback in a space. Also at a small venue, why even bother with PA speakers for amplified instruments? Recipe for a loud sloshy mess. KISS is usually the best approach to a live sound environment IME.

Small venues don't require much SR. Vocals, upright bass, maybe piano. And don't (expletive) mic the drums or wind instruments. They are plenty loud enough by themselves, never mind bagpipes.

It's room burn-in - next week's show will sound even better.
