Oh, they know how they work. Lots of older folks lonely and simply want connection, so they pretend to be dumb.

Can confirm, am not super old yet but already do this sometimes when dating or meeting new people haha. Does often segue into getting new perspectives though, so is cool.

I know some people will ask questions they sort of know the answer to just to make sure they know what they're doing, are on the right track, etc.

That or I've noticed some old people legit enjoy trolling after having to take life serious for so long.

I've had many customers 'test' me by asking questions they already know the answer to. I feel like I'm a dancing monkey sometimes. Playing dumb frustrates the heck out of me, I left the entertainment industry behind for a reason. Sometimes its good natured, other times TROLLS

I get a pretty good sense when talking to customers how well versed they are. Sometimes it is indeed an older customer wanting someone to share their passion of audio with.

I do periodically get calls from people who are kinda amazed there is someone with the same amount of interest in the hobby.
