Based on their choice of car, they’re probably the people that respect the act of driving the least.

Most Prius drivers are not people who like cars. If you don't like cars, you probably don't like driving. Why bother being good at something you dislike?

The Prius is also a hugely popular choice for cabbies and Uber drivers. So that probably plays a role too.

Lack of respect or dislike of driving aside... I'm not expecting great technical driving from a car that handles poorly and can't go fast.

But I do expect really BASIC common sense that pretty much EVERY other car does like: not driving in 2 lanes, not driving down the wrong side of the road, not driving like you want to commit suicide, driving actually on the road and not half on the median or sidewalk....

... not driving 60 in a 30 neighborhood and then proceeding to drive 40 in 75 flow of traffic on the freeway, not randomly stopping in the middle of the road w/o obstacles present, making only one single turn in the intersection, turning left and not right from the left lane (or vice versa), etc... these are all things I've seen in only the last few years from Prius drivers. More in the past.

I think @ChaChaRealSmooth nailed it: The Prius appeals to people who don’t like cars or driving. These are the people who will one day buy a self-driving car. Now for me, I like driving, I just don’t like other drivers.

As a cyclist and moped rider: it is handy to hear a vehicle coming near you so you can determine what its action may be. Those hybrids and electric vehicles are f'ing scary because you do not hear them. Second: people who do not use their blinkers.
