My UPS guy put a missed delivery notice (for a package requiring signature) on my door without knocking or ringing the doorbell; I'm pretty sure he filled it out before even walking up to my door.
That's why i have a dog. Even if i don't hear the doorbell he starts barking as soon as a delivery truck stops in front. Like he knows the sound of the trucks.
I spoke to FedEx about this. Driver discretion to knock/ring for a sig required, unless you sign up for an acct and specify to knock/ring. Seems dumb but works.
What @shotgunshane said. Honestly what I do is just route all sig required packages to local FedEx Office. Also..no wonder I got shipping exception alert from @Tchoupitoulas package...lol.
Thanks for the advice, @shotgunshane. I signed up for an acct right after this happened and left instructions. It's the inconsistency that's weird - at my last place, FedEx always left packages inside apt bldg, and not once did I sign for anything in 2 yrs. This was my first delivery at my new place, so at least now I know...
I've asked a few times; answers depend on who's working that day, and adherence to the policy seems to vary with the delivery guy. Items insured over a certain amount ($500?) automatically require a signature but I've not actually signed for anything in years. In the end, the other day, the guy simply handed the package to me directly.
I'm sure y'all are right about their policy, how it works, &c. I was asking a different question. Has any of you ever been to one of their stores in order to ship something. When you inform the clerk, "I'll need to have that signed for," has the clerk replied,"No problem. But just so you know, our policy on signatures is ... ?"
Thanks @Tchoupitoulas for raising the subject. To @shotgunshane for looking into it, and explaining it. And @YMO for correlating his experiences with Shane's explanation. Great job guys!
