finding good music software that fits your mental model of how you want to browse and play music is hard. that's why when I finally found one, I cling to it like a life raft lol
I've done the Roon test three times and hated it, but it looks like I qualify for a trial again, so may as well do a Roon/Audirvana/JRiver bakeoff as my requirements have shifted.
I use JRiver but I’m trialing Audirvāna. Audirvāna has a nice UI and sounds very good but also has a lot less overall features, which can be a good or a bad thing depending. I’ll probably stick with JRiver.
LMS = Logitech Media Server, formerly Squeezebox Server. It’s originally a proprietary server/protocol that has since become open source. Supposed to sound very good as well, but have never used it. piCorePlayer OS for the RPi uses LMS I believe.
Despite my prior prejudice, Roon has come out ahead. Integration with HQPlayer is excellent and fast, and it does the better job of managing Qobuz' API vs Audirvana. It doesn't hold a candle to JRiver for local library management, but in terms of the two main shifts in my playback experience (Streaming + HQPlayer) it's a clear win. f**k.
@Cryptowolf I have been looking at this and I'm going to go Foobar2000 and MP3Tag for tag management. I use a fair number of views in FB2K and JRMC to ensure tagging is consistent, but FB2K can do everything I need for free.
