@jexby in my experience it's because headphone manufacturers hate damping and soft materials because they add assembly time. Anything that requires new part variants to be developed with high MOQs from upstream suppliers makes profit margins slimmer by a fraction of a percent, which is a huge difference when you're talking about tens or hundreds of thousands of units.
@gixxerwimp It's heavily (I think) modded yamaha hp-1. Feels like a JAR580 on a planar-magnetic steroid. Dialing them in with eq for tonality, but lots of technicality wonders already there.
I have a YH-100 modded by dBel84 and it also sounds amazing. Those vintage ortho drivers are something else. Too bad they need soft materials for proper damping, otherwise there could have been some awesome off-the-shelf headphones out there.
