I think the problem is that with caffeine in my system I'm actually more tired. My sleep gets disrupted, so I'm drinking more to compensate, and having sleep disrupted, so....
I limit myself to one double a day, usually spread over morning to afternoon. Sleep isn't affected, but I guess it's personal. My wife can't even have a decaf in the afternoon.
Maybe you can start gradually and keep the intake low after you've detoxed.
I just have about 15 oz of drip in the morning and occasionally a small ~6oz or a double espresso in the afternoon. I never drank coffee for the love of caffeine anyway. It doesn’t really affect me much anymore either.
Funny thing though - experimenting with a switch to decaf was what got me seriously into specialty coffee around 20 years ago, had a hard time finding really good decaf so I started roasting beans myself in a quest to find better on a budget (wife was in med school).
