I met michael about a year ago. he had no clothes except for some shorts, and was in a wheelchair. he was in front of the cafe yelling, help, please help me. I understand last year we were still just coming out of covid, so everyone was just steering clear of him, but it broke my heart.
I bought him an italian cold cut sub, some chips, a coke, and a brownie. a couple months later he had a puppy with him. https://i.imgur.com/89FIgsg.jpg
I think a social service worker noticed him with the puppy at some point, and his situation started improving. He had some new clothes, and the puppy had tags and seemed to be getting fed.
a couple weeks ago, michael told me he tried to buy me a coffee, but the folks in the nearby cafe told him it was $17. I told him to knock that off, and keep his money. But I think there was some confusion... I usually have an espresso, in an espresso cup, and I think the folks in the cafe thought michael wanted to buy the cup itself, not the coffee.
