Got a couple abrupt responses saying "this is a steal" (it is a good price) and "do you want it or not?" But no photo with the date and no answer on whether he'll take PayPal Goods and Services (I offered to cover the fees). The responses strike me as pretty rude and aggro. Just walk away, right?
Tbh, I think it probably is a legit sale. And I have sympathy for sellers having to deal with a ton of tire-kicking responses on USAM. But I don't think it unreasonable to ask for some anti-scam assurance. He says he put the item (a phono cart) up at a low price, so he wouldn't have to "deal with crazies." But it sort of feels like he also did it to be a cock to anyone inquiring.
@Case A phono cart. Which I'm usually leery of, b/c everyone says "only used for 20 hours" or whatever. It's probably not worth the risk. Just wanted to check my etiquette.
Trust your gut and if you feel the red flags, steer clear. I almost got scammed even asking for the same note with name and date…he was able to photoshop or AI generate that, and he would not do PP G&S even when I offered to cover the fees . Save yourself the headache.
Yeah, I think I'm letting this one go. I do think it's probably legit, but why the aggro response to what I see as absolutely standard asks? And only meant to ensure a smooth transaction on both sides.
One thing I dislike about the maleness of this hobby is the weirdly arrogant/dickish behavior out of nowhere. I get that tire kickers abound, and I've kicked my share no doubt. But I've equally had dealers, etc. say, "Make me an offer," and then when I do, they basically chew me out for even bothering. It's enough to make you fed up with the whole audio world.
