When I heard you compared "against the RE-272 and UERM," gotta love the old school vibes. A good reminder that someone doesn't always need to chase the newest FOTM. I've got an ongoing love-hate relationship with my UE4. I just wish it were universal, though there are days I don't mind customs!

That era of hifiman iems is a pleasant memory. I enjoyed both the RE272, and both/or the RE252 and RE262, though I can't remember which. I was just gotting portable audio.

Yeah, I really haven't found anything better for my preferences for single DD and multi BA IEMs. I haven't been on the lookout much, though.
Didn't like the newer HFM IEMs or the UERR, for example. Sennheiser IEMs are too bassy, etc...

Even the Rag is old-school by now :P

I wanted to see what a good ortho IEM could do, so that's why I bought it.

I may have found a way to open up the new version of the S12 to mod them. It would be fun to see what you think of my modded version. I'll contact you if I can make a pair.
