Algebra is 'techbro' identity politics....down with the man!!!

I haven't used algebra in 17+ years. Forgot all about it.

Well YMO, we thank you umpa lumpas working in the dredges of usury...I mean, where would The Man be if he was not soaking the little guy?

I'm confused... the public schools stopped teaching algebra? wtf?

Supposedly - a combination of "new math" and "DEI", but then the source I read had an axe to grind as well ;) I suspect more than one real teacher kept doing whatever worked...but back to regular programming: Down With The MAN!

I just googled it... WTF is going on in CA? Banning middle school algebra to reduce the racial divide in test scores??!?!?!!? WTF IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE. Lets push everyone down, instead of trying to pull people up. Lets teach to the lowest common denominator, rather than challenge those that excel.

Major epiphany... lets do both. Pull up those having problems AND challenge those that excel.

That's just it YMO, if I had it to do over again I would by right with you - degree in finance and then pinching the pennies off of 100 million WASP's. Pennies on the dollar on a jumbo loan adds up to real $ real quick!

CA policies/education is absolutely INSANE right now. Honestly, if I were to have kids I would not send them to public school. I would either move states or go private

It almost seems like CA gov wants to normalize incompetency and degeneracy at this point. Whether it's to (continue to) secure votes or something else, not totally sure.

10 years ago, if I had heard any of this, I would have legitimately thought it was a dystopian tale of control via stupidity a la Brave New World.

I do legitimately wonder why the discussion shifted from "improve schooling" to "hurr hurr normalize failure" within the last 10 years though.

Think about how much money it takes to really run a school district with tens of thousands of students right and that's probably most of the answer there.

Teach them calculus. MIT Calculus for Artists. If I can do it, they can do it.

I'm innumerate, and grind to a halt at the first equation when I read something technical. But heck, at least I know what an equation is!

I was thrown out of the maths class as a no-hoper. I guess the alternative would have been to bring the rest of the class down to my level? Oh god no... /Somebody/ has to understand this stuff!
