So I made a custom headphone rack out of Brazilian Cherry:

Basically a 48" x 4" board that is 3/4" thick with 6 hangers spaced 9" apart and the ends are 1" from the edge. I also finished the wood with two coats of boiled linseed oil and then two coats of wipe on semi-gloss poly. Here is what the wood looked like before.

Here is the finished product (I made my own wipe on poly by mixing 1:1 of oil based polyurethane and mineral spirits).

Here are the links to products I used:

So the board and hangers is around $65. So considering the BLO, mineral spirits, poly, and toggle bolt wall hangers, I am likely at about $100 total here. Although now I have all these finishing products.

Also, if you want to do your own, you can choose more exotic woods (Walnut, Bubinga, Purple Heart, Padauk (my favorite)), but those cost almost twice as much as this board I purchased and it looks like a cross between mahogany and walnut. And of course you can get more domestic wood (Ash, Oak, Poplar, Birch, Basswood, even Maple), but if I was going to paint it, I might have done poplar as it was about $10 less of what I paid for this Brazilian Cherry. I suppose one could also use MDF, or anything really.

You could also do maybe shorter than 9" apart on the hangers, but you run the risk of headphones hitting each other. This is why using coat racks are no good for this purpose.

Great job! Once I am able to move offices, I am going to do something similar with a row of these: https://a.aliexpress.com/_mtP2yZO And maybe some separate pegs for the cables.

Its hard to take pictures of wood finishes that do them justice, so I'm sure the wood looks better in person. But the it does look really nice in the picture.

You are absolutely correct. And thank you. It probably looks a bit darker and more contrasty in the picture. I found the iPhone adds a bit of warmth, but even with a more accurate camera it would only be slightly better. It’s like taking pictures of grass - all the different varieties look the same with a picture, but 6 feet away there is a clear difference between Kentucky Bluegrass, Burmuda, Fescue, and Zoysia.

Simply gorgeous work there, mate, and simple enough instructions that even someone like me might be able to pull it off without somehow ensuing chaos.
