Any chance mahogany owners can purchase the purple heart cups separately? :)

Any set date on the detachable cables? A pair of x00s with this finish and detachable cables would be a pirate's dream |\/|

Sadly no, wanted to, but it's impossible for a variety of reasons.

    Agreed.
Lack of detachable cable is the main reason I'm not jumping into the purple pool at this time.
    A shame.

+1, I would have been willing to pay $500 for a version with detachable cable.

Ditto, I would love to be able to run them with a balanced cable without having to re-terminate. Even a stock fixed balanced cable would be excellent (maybe with a 4-pin XLR -> 1/4in adapter offered in the drop alongside it).

The demand is high enough that it likely will happen before long. Makes me feel good about having mahogany in hand now and waiting for the detachable cable version before going purple :).

agreed on the detachable cable. would allow so much flexibility wrt amp pairing. that's probably the only reason i'm not on the drop as of a few hours ago.

I vote no on detachable cables because it adds structural weaknesses to the cups, which were never designed for such in the first place. It also adds three extra connection points (two solder and one pressure fit) increasing chance of mechanical failure. Finally detachable cables increases gear neuorsis which gets in the way of musical enjoyment and diverts funds from more effective use such as getting a better DAC or amp.

For the record, I am not against cables; but I think most people need to work on their systems first.

Remember kiddos: sex before gear, and definitely sex before cables. If you are having sex, you should feel free to spend whatever you want on cables and gear.

If there are structural weakened points with additional soldering, that makes sense.

But all reports of the original mahogany TH-X00 cable being a snake mess that tangles itself automatically still sucks.

If it must be a permanent cable, then make it from materials and sleaving that don't suck.
That I'd pay for, since my Yggdrasil + BW1 system doesn't need any "work".

MD probably should have started with 2,000 units to begin with, but the initial limit of 1,000 units encourages people to act sooner rather than later. I did... but as I posted two hours into the drop, I expected MD to increase the limit to 2,000. This was posted by Will 8 hours into the drop:

"Good news everyone! We've confirmed Fostex can product up to 2000 units of the Purpleheart without impacting delivery timeline. As such, I've increased the available quantity to 2000."

Thanks! I exchanged my regular TH-X00 order for a Purpleheart. Very easy to do if anyone else is thinking about it.
