It's one of the literal THREE headphones I LOVE. It's just not needed with Auteur on the way and Andromeda to tide me over.

Very interesting. I'm handing my HE-6 off to Luis tonight for the same mods. Have you had time to directly compare it with the Auteur? I was a big fan of Auteur at RMAF for it's unique and even presentation but couldn't see it replacing my Code-LEX for critical work. For better or worse I've always been a planar guy (particularly early hifimans).

Yeah, I've been going back and forth between them over the last couple weeks and the Auteur has more realistic bass slam. The Code X is very even keeled throughout the frequency response and can be used for critical applications. I prefer a little more bass though and don't need both headphones since I listen to one headphone 99% of the time.

Maybe you need more amp for that slam?

Like another Vidar? I dunno, I also tried out of my 250W Pioneer Spec 2 power amp. It's not the amps, it's the headphone.

Might need more than the Vidar. It’s less efficient after the mods.

They're about 2-3dB less efficient after the mods.

How is the AR-H1 vs the Aeon cskippy? I'm assuming you heard both at the show.

Edit: oh I just saw your impressions. Kinda surprised.

I actually got to hear the Aeon at my house for a little bit and preferred the AR-H1 for the better detail and more engaging sound. The Aeon beat it on bass slam, not extension, and had a warmer sound overall. AR-H1 is especially good for Rock and energetic music. Also, the soundstage, especially depth, is vastly superior on the AR-H1.

How inefficient is the Code Sex? Will Cavalli LC or LG not be powerful enough?

They are about 2dB less efficient than stock using stock velour pads but the pads Luis uses actually increases the efficiency as they act like room gain as they are pleather pads.

The Liquid Gold should be more than adequate to power them. I use them on the Black Widow and it's fine for me. Iin direct volume matched A/B with Vidar the differences are so small it's silly.

Back in the HE-6 heyday, vintage receivers and integrated amps were used often. Maybe there was more to that then just cost effectiveness...

How are the HEM4's? I'm tempted, and it would be something better than just getting a DAC with my Switch would think. I gotta think on that. I'll PM you tonight if they're still available.
