One is my original, one I got from a trade, and one I bought for a good price. Mostly trying to test unit variation and differences in cables.

One will be kept as a spare and one will go for sale after I've tested my theory.

I think OgreArmy is working on a quad-driver assembly and is secretly hoping for quadraphonic recordings to make a comeback.

Who does your recabling? I still need to get that done on mine.

I soldered the cable on my original pair (left) myself directly to the drivers. The other ones were done by the cable makers which were really half assed jobs by soldering their wire to the pigtails.

I've got a whole bunch of beef with a cable maker but I won't spill the beans unless someone is really curious.

That looks similar to Mogami star quad. The shielding is basically useless and adds weight. I think cables should be light, with no sleeving, and flexible.

I'm really considering picking up one of these. Right now, I only have an HD 800 (and a DT 1350 for work). I'm bored, and I've never gotten around to trying these... and I'm curious to hear how they're different from the 800.

The other option is to try an HD 800 S, but I think that's too close to what I have.

Somebody offer to sell me an HE-6 for a decent price. :)

Yah, it's kind of the same as Mogami, if you have Mogami, no need to try this. Oh, I forget, the shielding things can (should) be removed, we only need the little cables, they're pretty light after removing those things. (I think you already done it:))

Both of your other ones? Do you note any variations between your set and the other two? I believe you soldered the BTG 8 strand right?

Would be nice to know which cable maker and what happened since very few cable makers do hardwires for the HE-6 and since I'm considering getting it done, I'd like to know who to avoid and why.

Hey guys new owner of a pair of he-6's. Currently saving up for proper amp. May pick up a reasonably priced speaker amp to keep me occupied. My question is what do I need to connect the phones. Do I just need the speaker box adapter that they sell. Or can I use an xlr adapter and connect that to my current headphone cable. eBay has those with the 4 binding posts coming off the other end of the adapter. I'm in unchartered water here and don't want to risk damaging my phones.

If your amp is solid state, you can get the xlr2binding posts without problems. If your amp is OTL you need the box.

I just took a female 4 pin XLR plug, soldered a 1.5' run of speaker wire to the terminals and attached banana plugs to the amp end of the cable. Works perfectly and was extremely cheap.
