Stop making suggestions for things you know nothing about. 8 kilowatts into 4 ohms? Are you f'ing kidding me? You could practically run a musical tesla coil off that. The HE-6 would explode just from looking at that amp.

And one of us seems to lack the sense to not make dangerous suggestions that inexperienced people could potentially take to heart. Joke or not doesn't really matter, that amp absolutely will blow up the HE-6 and could cause a fire.

Own a firearm?, best way to know if it's loaded is to cock it and press the trigger, you will know for sure if it fires.

You realize as long as you kept the volume the same as any other amp, it wouldn't be anymore likely to blow up your he-6s as any other speaker amp right? Like sure if you crank it up, but that would happen with most speaker amps...

Though it would be a waste of all that current capability haha

    +1
That's also the case with other speaker amps - they're designed to drive low impedance loads and this ability and their power output potential is wasted with the HE6.
I feel a bit guilty dedicating my Khartago amp to the HE6, but I don't know of a better sounding, more 'sensible', HP amp for HE6 that can be had at a lower price (happy to hear suggestions though).

Oh I know. I use my HE-6 with a 250 watt speaker amp.

I've run my HE-6 off a Yamaha P7000s before, which can hit the kilowatt range if we're playing that game. I didn't particularly like it though.

How do your HD600s and Q701s fair with the Khartago, Tobes? I assume you use them with it as it's your main setup. I'm considering picking up a Khartago, but want something that will play nice with the HE-6 *and* my effecient headphones, lol.

Firstly, I don't use the Q701's in my main setup, I use them with my desktop pc. I don't really like their balance for extended listening sessions. Can be rather bright and technical sounding. Quite revealing though and I find I can use them to judge recordings but not so much listening for pleasure.

I bought a cheap balanced cable (off eBay) to try the HD600 on the Khartago, but for whatever reason I got some annoying lowish level hum. Haven't investigated whether this is the cable or that the Khartago doesn't like the high impedance HD600. It did prove the concept though, tightened the bass and gave a somewhat more expansive sound to the HD600.
In any case the HD600 on the Khartago did not approach the HE6 - in clarity, transient detail, expansiveness and (of course) bass extension and authority. Hum with the HD600 cable aside, the HE6 improves/benefits more off the Khartago than the HD600.
As such, I use the HD600 directly from the HP amp of my Grace m920. I like being able to level match both the HD600/m920 and the HE6/Khartago and swap between them at my whim. Most of my listening is with the HE6 though, as it pretty much does everything better. I've also achieved a balance with the HE6 that shades the 600 for musicality and coherence.

Have been playing around with a partial 'Fuzzor' mod on the HE6 ear side magnets. I've currently got the felt strips only on the 1/4 circle area of magnets that was treated by the Hifiman stock 1/4 foam (which I removed). This, plus the open grill mod and stock velour pads, has given a very open and detailed sound with a very musical balance. There's a certain gorgeous and engaging quality to the music that I haven't gotten with other mod combinations I've tried with the HE6. Suits my personal preference perhaps.

So yeah had this monster for about a week now, only thing I can say is wow. Even before speaker amping, I have never heard such a ridiculously huge, impactful, yet intricate experience. These headphones are special.

These are modded to @ohhgourami 's specifcations -- which means no rear grilles, Audeze vegan earpads sealed to the baffle with tape, and a thin ring of blutak around the edge of the driver to create a seal against the housing inside the cup. No front or backwave damping is in use.

Main complaints right now are a slight cloudiness to the sound and a cheese grater effect to the treble. The former I expect to go away with bigger power (headphones have always sounded this way to me when they were begging for more juice...)

I've got a moon 430 I'm using currently. I don't own this unit. I've got a cheap speaker amp (200.00) while this amp does sound better, what I'm hearing can't justify the 3.5k price tag. My speaker amp is not that far off. Anyone in doubt should consider this

You guys know of someone who can make up speaker tap cables for headphones at a fair price? Unless of course banana plugs to balanced XLR is ready-to-buy somewhere I haven't found?

Dyson cable on eBay, run you about 30$. Very nicely made. Search he6 cable & it should come up. You can contact them & tell him exactly what your looking for.

I've gotten two recently and both are excellent. I'd post a picture but haven't figured out how to yet

Back of solid state amp I have coming looks like this:

Ignore xlr on the back, those are inputs. So using the loudspeaker outputs for connection to hifiman 4-pin xlr balanced cable, I'll need an adapter (albeit shorter length) that looks like this, yes?

Yes, my four lines that come off the xlr are about 8 inches. I've also got one without the banana plugs
