As an aside, who wants to bet that the Shangri-La sounds better out of a Ragnarok + SRD7 as opposed to their chi-fi 300B thing-a-ma-bob.

Any word on if the headphone will be sold separately?

 

Much respect for Fang lost. I think I'm done with HFM for the time being, we seem to be going in different directions with our priorities.

Stax Mafia apparently heard that the phones will be $6k-8k on their own. The 300B monstrosity is the majority of the cost, as if I'd put that on my shelf. It's freakin' ugly.

 

I'm with you on that one... Most of their high end headphones (HEX and HEK) are too soft. The ones in the middle HE-560 and HE-400i are too bright. The HE-6 requires a ridiculous amount of amplification and might require modifications to sound good, and it hasn't been updated in a long time. The HE-400S might be good, but I haven't heard it and it's on the lower end of what I'm looking for at this point. I don't need a side grade to my HD600 or HE-400i. From my perspective, the last good headphone HiFiMan made was the HE-500. Until they make something more like that, I will probably have to look elsewhere to get my headphone fix.

 

It's absolutely, ridonkeylously stupid. It doesn't even use Michelangelo marble, nor has gold and platinum vapor. Fang is a delusional man.

I'm eagerly waiting for the headfi video where jude says the Shangri-La is as good as the Orpheus 2. Except, instead of crying this time, he does a quick dance while listening to "Watch Me".

 

Pretty sure these will be available as a standalone HP, hence the custom cable with Stax plug. Either that or he had an actual Stax plug lying around that he used for the prototype.

 

To be fair, they really need to get every last drop of detail out of their iphone. They don't have time for compromises!

 

That's why they will include a 6 inch cable only just like they did with my HE-400i. Ok, I'm being facetious and it did include like a short 4 foot cable, but really who is using a HE-400i as a mobile headphone? It is rather large and bulky for that...

 

It's clear you didn't notice the lack of the premium materials drops the price $10k. A huge savings!

Well it doesn't really suprise me when you look at HEK and HEX. But don't blame HiFiMAN. Blame the stupid consumers who bought them.
