I also am selling my beloved Hattor The Big Passive Preamp. Arek of Hattor/Khozmo does incredible work, and his TOTL model surely delivers. My wallet nor my sanity is ready for a $4k plus dac. But I'm sure this will sell fast. Killer deal on an end game dac!

 

The May is sold and staying in the SBAF family.

Hattor Preamp still up for grabs. Has to be one of the most transparent preamps out there (fight me AVC gang). Folks may disagree with me, but I found the Freya to be duller and more veiled in transparent mode than this. Things just sound effortless and alive through this but still full bodied. Bonus is I had no trouble running balanced inputs to SE outputs running through this device. Gain mode is a nice little bonus and easy to roll opamps. I also enjoyed the dual mono setup to tweak channel balance especially with headphones if things were not sounding quite right for me on any particular day.

I would assume he is selling the one he bought at a higher price (he has two). Let's give the benefit of the doubt. @Inoculator is a good dude.

 

IMO any one of three things could have helped:

1. Explaining the '"long story" e.g. clarifying one was bought at or above MSRP as the one being sold (not great, but at least understandable)
2. Selling only on HF/USAM at the given price
3. Cutting SBAF members the same deal

Without any of the above the optics just don't look great, irrespective of member reputation.

I think the right thing to do would be to cut the SBAF member who bought the May a ~$1500 refund (less shipping and fee markups), or cancel the sale.

 

My bad guys, I suppose to avoid this I should have just kept the sale on USAM. I was splitting the difference between the one I got used for the killer price, and the other one I got closer to MSRP. I posted it on SBAF still below typical used sale price so I could still hook someone up here that may be interested in trying the May.

If the buyer is not comfortable with this I am more than happy to refund their purchase and just take this sale to USAM.

 

Just to circle back on this. The buyer and I have chatted and agreed on partial refund along with my sincere apologies for any lack of transparency.

I hope via my past and future actions I can regain the trust of those that have felt my actions were not inline with the spirit of this community. I appreciate you keeping me accountable. This community has done so much for me, and I am deeply grateful for how it has welcomely embraced me. I promise to be and do better moving forward.

 

I don't get it. It's not like the OP bought a used May KTE for $3000 and flipped it here for $4500. He sold the DAC he bought at full retail for a fair price and replaced it with the DAC he bought at a great price. This is not any different than if he had a May KTE, got a great price on a used Terminator Plus (less say $2500 less than it was worth), and sold the May KTE here for a bit less than the market would bear.

 

Key difference is OP was clued into the deal through SBAF.

I might agree with your POV if he found the deal on his own.

But as one of many who shares incredible deals with this community (when I could have easily bought and flipped it myself), I found it a little distasteful.

 

@Inoculator has sold countless pieces of gear for great prices often at considerable loss. I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt here. I’m not sure this situation is that black and white and what I do know is what a good person @Inoculator is. One of the best in the community.

 

I agree, Inoculator has been a long-standing member who has put his own gear on loan more than once and sold much more at great prices. I think we owe more to core members of our community than to pass judgement without understanding the entire situation. It would be nice if we asked more questions in these kind of cases versus going straight to shaming and blaming.

Why does it matter how he found the deal? He didn’t flip it! He sold a different DAC!! You guys that are finding fault here are just plain wrong.

@Inoculator Is an amazing guy, I was out of the loop while this was happening, but I thought he probably made a mistake. I know he truly cares about this community and he's proved it by coming out forth and making it right, so I hope the members here can give him their kind understanding on this matter.
