Loaner: JAR660S Personal Loaner

When I first talked to @ext1 about making a JAR660S I always had in my mind that I would love to send it on a quick tour around SBAF if, a) it sounded good and b) if there was interest. Through discord I have heard of a number of interested party so that covers b. As to a., yes that is covered too. The JAR660S is a great sounding headphone and worth the upgrade in my opinion.




Step back a bit, I was a fan of the stock HD660S and think that it was a nice change from the HD650 and a bit of a lovechild of the HD580 and 650, not outright better than either, but a nice combination of tonality, speed, control, etc. The fact that it was easier to drive was a nice bonus, but still its not so easy that I feel a phone does any justice to the sound and that an amp is still needed. With this in mind, I figured the JAR mod couldn’t make it worse, and I am glad to say It is better.

The JAR660S should still be considered a love child of good traits of the 650 and 580. The tonal picture is fast and accurate with low end control and presence. The upper mids/lower treble are forward leaning which keeps the engagement factor high on these. I get a wider sense of soundstage than either of the other two and detail retrieval is high up on the list of noticeable changes. Bass presentation is better defined and cleaner than the HD650, but more present than the HD580. Its taken over a lot of my listening time.

I would like to open the loaner up to those that are interested, no qualifications, just those who want to hear the latest from Jupiter Audio Research. I will probably limit the participants to 10 or so people, plus a few others on the side.

UPDATE: Loaner Tour Order as I see it working best. A bit of a jump after Inoculator to make sure that ColdsnapBry is able to get ears on it before leaving the country.

Bumping this thread to see if anyone else is interested in joining. I will start an impressions thread over the weekend and the few who have had ears on them can add their thoughts and we can get the tour under way.

Currently @Erroneous is the only other ears that have heard them, but they are on their way to the next person now.

I do have a 660S that I use mostly for gaming these days.
I’d be curious to hear the improvement offered by the JAR.

I compared my brand new JAR600 to stock HD660S and it was no contest: the 600 were a lot more detailed and real sounding. I’m wondering how much of that was the JAR modifications and how much was the drivers themselves.

Small Update.

JAR660S is currently with CeeTee and going to be sent to BillP's for measurements in the next couple of weeks. @CeeTee has also graciously decided to send along his stock HD660S for direct comparison by all those who are on the tour.


The order is also being updated to make sure that ColdsnapBry can get ears on them before he heads back out of the US.
