This drop is a roaring success lmao

MOD EDIT (@ultrabike): To offers some context, @HitmanFluffy seems to be complaining about (or "calling out") a perceived closeness between SBAF and Massdrop, in particular given an EC amp's availability. Perhaps a conflict of interest.

Then this takes the form of Massdrop being put in the same level of a crowdfunding site, given a 7 month waiting period for a lower price is deemed unthinkable, a risk, and something folks are suckered in due to peer pressure.

A shit was not given regarding the conflict of interest. As far as we know Massdrop is not exactly a crowdfunding site where you can say goodbye to your hard earn money with nothing but a "thanks for your support" little note. Not even flowers or a kiss.

GOD EDIT: LOL. I was just laughing at the fact that at the time of posting there were more thread posts than buyers.

Despite the glowing reviews, I refuse to pay up front and in full for something that I may not get my hands on until seven months down the track. I can't be the only one put off by this.

Still a few days left for FOMO flames to be fanned though.

this isn't any different than having a custom amp built. I waited 14 months for the bw2. good things come to those who wait

No, you are not. May people are complaining whining about this on the MD site.
Me, I put in for a HD6xx and I'm getting next week. I put in for the Model 3, and who knows when I'll get that. I'll let $399 ride for 7 months to get this amp, even if it is just to try it out. Given the less than enthusiastic response, this may be the only run. Of course once it hits the street in June, this might be the beginning of many runs.

    Please google "Stanford marshmallow experiment"

227 signed up for the drop. Their parents must be real proud.

Sheesh, I hadn't looked at the drop in days, I didn't realize so many people were dropping out. Young people today are so impatient.

Wow. People order amps for $7000 they have never heard, and will wait months to receive based on people’s opinions they trust. But a $399 amp is somehow different?
I think some people are just bored, and this seems a good opportunity to gripe about something. Sometimes you have to wait for things. Like growing food. Hey if it makes you feel better.

To be fair, way more ears have been on the zds or EC stuff vs this amp. While two trusted reviewers are worth more than ten rookies, the sample size is still quite limited.

The wait time is a whole other thing. Some don't care, some do. If there was a 6 month wait for a Vali 2, I doubt many would be keen to bother getting it.

I've been on the fence about this one since it came out- what's been holding me back is more that I don't have sufficient experience with gear (I'm still waiting for incoming stuff from MD) to triangulate on whether I'd appreciate this, so feel like I should be building up more listening experience before buying more stuff.

I have no problem with the wait time and find the constant whining on MD a bit trying (the demographic seems highly shifted towards the immature end of the spectrum). I honestly can't understand how the customer-facing guys at Massdrop can put up with it.

    @zerodeefex

Chill out bro, why are you so obsessed with this amp? Its cool that you like it but its not like
you get any benefit from it selling well. And honestly hitman was only calling it like he sees it.

And you know what, f**k massdrop. They try to extract as much value out of hobbyists with terrible
customer service and misleading marketing tricks. And they screw over more and more companies and communites
along the way, taking credit for other peoples work and waiving their legal team at small businesses.
Personally I advise all the companiesI care about to stay far away from them.

Also how do you expect massdrop's non existent customer service will fair when people have issues with their amps?
It is pretty clear that Craig isn't responsible for repairs. And in that case, isn't it disingenuous to market this
amp as an Eddie current amp?

I have to admit, I have an order in but being in Australia i'm a bit worried about post sales service.

    Well, MD does state:
Endorsed by Craig Uthus of JBL, Moth Audio, and Eddie Current fame, it’s based on the Night Blues Mini from his longtime partner, Laconic Lab, and closest in topology to the Eddie Current Zana Deux Transformer (also known as the ZDT).

Basically, it appears MD is licensing the Eddie Current name, like it does with Cavalli (I assume a similar arrangement). I don’t think it’s misleading if anyone reads the text. Of course if you just look at the amp, it does appear to be an Eddie current amp.

My guess is MD will just send replacements to customers and batch return the defective units. It will be interesting to see if massdrop builds some sort of repair shop capability with all the stuff they sell now under their own label(s).

I think it's funny how people are taking shots at others for getting cold feet and dropping out of a f'ing massdrop. Like yea shame on these people for ultimately choosing to be more frugal with their money instead of going full steam ahead with what might have been an impulse buy for them.

I think it's great that this amp is finally being made available to people in the west and I trust the people championing it on this forum as a top performer in its price range, but 7 months is still a long time and personally I would rather just set aside the cash for a real Zana Deux during that time frame.

I agree its a long time. For those of us with a definite cap on our rig budget though it might be the best thing around this price point in the foreseeable future. I told myself this year that I wouldn't have more than $1200 invested in my desktop rig as im never home and I should be investing in my photography gear for work instead. A ZDS would be great but for the price I could get the Nikon 19mm PCE for architecture.

Im currently looking at ZDT Jnr, HD6XX and hopeful Bifrost Multibit update in the next 6 months. From what I gather after trying 2/3 pieces and reading about the ZDT I should have a 85% TOTL rig right there.

As far as the other stuff, I really don't give a shit and offer no advice to prospective customers other than repeat that people not roll random tubes and that people not call EC regarding this amp for support or service.

Personally, I dont think Massdrop needed the EC brand as this amp was already a well regarded known quantity as the NBM (and improved from such - PCB says NBM v2). Yes, I'm sure many of you guys seem totally weirded out by this branding arrangement.

Massdrop should start stocking this shit in the future or have method to crank up the assembly line quicker since six to seven month waits are going to turn people off. In that light, I'd actually consider the drop to be extremely successful. I'm surprised they sold more than 85 units.

Personally I wouldn't wait; but on the other hand, Massdrop has made this amp more easily obtainable outside of Russia. At least we can get one now, right?

For an amp that has a 7 months wait and few prospective buyers have heard, 225 buyers is a lot. Especially since there is nothing at all stopping people from waiting a few months to hear the amp and whatever else is out by then before they decide to purchase. (Other than fear of missing out and being made fun of by people on this forum for making rational decisions)

And maybe some buyers should find out where these amps are being built and where
they will be serviced. And if issues like hum are valid reason for a return.

I feel like with 225 buyers there may not be another run. That coupled with the difficultly of getting at NBM and servicing from massdrop probably being easier than sending it to Russia and that’s why I’m still in at the moment.
