Pretty much modern Hollywood in a nutshell. Quantity over quality.

The strikes are the best thing that could've happened though, because they are becoming more conservative with their output since they lost so much money. The streaming boom is over. Time to get back to the business of making money with shit people actually wanna watch.

Recently a kind of far-right populist (with sometimes good arguments) has won the Dutch parliamentary elections. In the U.S. there was a guy with orange hair. Well this guy is blond.

Some people are freaking out but I no longer care. I would never vote for him or his party but when people like him make more sense than the current political leadership, I understand the voters. I hope people will stay rational and calm enough in these times.

Yeah, we got orange hair guy and brain fart guy. It will eventually work itself out.* Democracy is a shitty form a government, but it's better than the alternatives.

*Probably not before young people get fucked outta US Social Security.

I hope you folks don't have a civil war. Living next door that would inevitably suck.

I miss the days when politics was treated like sports. You had rivalries but could still have beer together. And nobody tried to destroy your livelihood because you were on the "wrong" side.

    *typing this drunk I don't give a f**k*

The problem with more people nowadays who are moving are those who want to be with people they agree with, politically. So something I haven't stated on SBAF is that I am moving with my father in February of next year due to one he is 83 years old and two he can't handle a 3/2 house by himself anymore. Now, he doesn't live in Jacksonville but only one hour south of Jacksonville. In the county he lives in he is in a heavily retiree county. This means the majority of new arrivals are retirees without children. Every time I visit my father were he lives (which is Palm Coast, FL), I normally see the following:

    • Tons of Anti-Democrat Bumper Sticker on cars.
    • Various people wearing political t-shirts that are aimed for conservative's.
      • Example: I see plenty of people wearing a shirt that states "I don't raise my daughter to be a Democrat."
    • Rarely any Pro-Democrat Bumper Stickers or Shirts people are wearing.
I am not surprised, people nowadays want to move where it matches their political viewpoint. I think it is not healthy to live in a bubble, but I can't stress enough that people are so into living in an area that matches their viewpoint that they hate to be challenged. It is hard to explain, but I met tons of people over the years that live where my father lives and they are happy that the area have limited Democrats that they won't get into power and run a city. A few months ago I was in a van ride with someone who just recently moved to the city claiming that they were a DOJ employee and can't handle the "Killocrats" ruining Philadelphia since they don't trust the police. I guess more people will move to where there's tons of people who believe what they believe and hate the major political party.

For me, I think that is Anti-Liberalism. Moving into a bubble is not healthy for the mental thinking and also your mind. I guess I'll be a minority, my date is happy to tell me often that being a Democrat = A murderer.

Note: I'm not a Democrat, but I am a pro-thinker of crap to realize that people hate to think and hate to be on the non-popular side of common thought.

TD=DR: Always think with your mind, don't take the easy way out and just start agreeing with people since that's the common popular opinion with people. This is pure SBAF logic down to the core.

I do find it humorous that my children are getting SSA (through survivor benefits) while there's a large chance I'll never see a dime of my own.

Just do what I do. Be in a party nobody wants to be in! Hell, even as a libertarian, I hate my own party!

Seriously though, I had to get off dating apps. So many people have in their profile "swipe left if you voted for Trump" and most of the conservatives either just say they want to date someone like-minded or don't put anything at all. I could probably go on a huge spiel about how fucked up online dating is nowadays. Losing over a hundred pounds in a year was easier than dealing with that shit.

It's dangerous when people's identities are nearly completely defined by political affiliation especially when those affiliations are the product of emotional reasoning.

Opinions on Manifest 3 ? (90% of browsers, chrome base)

Does A.company have right to disable addons for users using a browser? (claimed to be open source?)

    Strong argument against:

You Paid for your hardware/phone/ computer.

    You are paying your ISP.

The site that is publicly out there like Wikipedia.. Like Arstechnica is shared and when you visit this site, the index.html + javascript + css is being rendered on your machine!

Why cant I use say.. Dark Reader? uBlock origin on a site I visit?

Need to get paid? Make a site subscription based or donation based.

    Long term solution is FF.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Common saying among Texans is "don't bring your politics here" if you move in from a blue state.*

My deal and thoughts are as follows:
    • None of your f'ing business. Isn't Texas supposed to be about individualism and not giving a shit about what other people do or think?
    • Umm, isn't Texas still the South where people are supposed to be polite? Ya know, just don't ask certain things if you are not sure so you can continue to be good neighbors. (The fact is most people are polite here about stuff like this, it's the idiot loudmouths today who can't help themselves).
    • Why da f**k do you think people from blue states moved here in the first place? (I bet people who moved into Texas from blue states are more "conservative" (whatever that means today) than Texans on average. If Texans want to keep Texas red, they should be welcoming folks from blue states.
    • Oh, you think I'm the enemy? I bet you don't know that your next door neighbor, despite her Texas accent (getting rare unless one is older), totally voted for Biden-Harris last time around. Along with every other person in the neighborhood.**
*I've seen Texans spout this shit on Nextdoor.com. Great way to start off as neighbors.
**2020 was really close in my county. Oh, and if you live in a decent sized city, for sure you got outvoted by dems.

I've never been to TX, but just going off how many people I know that hail from there, how many Fil-Am or otherwise just Pinoy folk I know that've moved there over the years, I'm inclined to think that TX fully doesn't live up to the stereotypes that've been ascribed to it over the years.

That's all I'll say on the matter pending a visit to relatives or something, IDK.

Having read through some of the experiences many on the forum have shared about life there, perspectives from white and non-white folk alike (I don't know if I'm supposed to capitalise that-- not a jab but a genuine query), you'd have to be a special kind of wilfully ignorant to say that while the problems of racism and colourism (which are VERY different things) are not quite as bad as certain media outlets would have you believe, but there's still a lot of room for grey zones and social faux pas and "I don't hate you, I respect you, but I don't think you should be mixing with us" going on.

This is gonna sound hilarious coming from me, but the internet's made it stupidly easy to fall into groupthink and block out perspectives that make you uncomfortable. Speaking as someone that used to hate the colour of my skin growing up, sometimes you really just need to have a proper conversation with folk and speak candidly. One way or another, biases and idiocies will be brought to light and whether the people who're being asshats admit it or not, they'll be made uncomfortable and start to rethink things.

It won't be much, but it's a start. The problem is people do tend to shy away from that BECAUSE of the discomfort. Eh.

Texas is big. It's like five different states in one. If there is any commonality, it's that people generally dislike taxes.

Perhaps another thing that everyone agrees on: you literally cannot do anything, maybe not even go to the bathroom, without a car.

Freedom is a loose word here in Texas that many who don't travel much seem to understand. Old "Texas" is an idea that a large swath are still trying to cling to. Try buying liquor on a Sunday and then preach to me about how free it is. Having spent my life living equally between Texas and California, I like to say I hold dual citizenship and appreciate each state for what it has to offer while acknowledging its shortcomings. I think it will be a blue shade of purple again soon and it's already not sitting well with the old guard.

The hardest thing about neighborly democracy is (to steal a PM phrase) learning to eat your own dog food. On my old Volvo 850 I had a Glock bumper sticker right next to my hopey-feely Obama bumper sticker (and Marlin Crawler and AllPro Offroad stickers).

In my area it is the same deal. I even seen stuff that were put on windshield's of cars that have out of state tags saying "Welcome to FL, you know where you escape from. We appreciate if you don't bring your voting habits from a blue state with you."

Since the state is getting fuller with plenty of Northeastern folks either close to retirement/retired with a lot of assets, I noticed that some of them are the loudmouths type who will get into your face if they discover you don't toe the line with the FL GOP. My biggest issue is these people have the checkboxism problem. Like if you know that they are a GOP voter, they will most likely 80%-90% believe what the GOP positions are and that's their opinion. It is like you already know that person before you even get to know a person. Same thing as some Dem voters I know. Sad thing about them is they want to stay in their own bubble and refuse to have their beliefs to be challenged.

I am not surprised. Politics up in the Northeast are full of the asshole types who have a fetish for strong governors. Of course they love the system here since if you are on Team Red you will support whatever the FL GOP does to make sure Dems don't get back into power for a few decades. Reminds me of NY State politics....oh wait.....

Here's what been happening on/off at the beach town near my dad's house in a heavily red county: https://flaglerlive.com/obscenity-flagler-beach/#gsc.tab=0
Sad thing is that they will have the F*** Biden signs where families with their young kids are walking and they can see the signs.

On a semi related topic: Of course one sign of the times of how much people are bailing out of NY is how many NY businesses are setting up shop in FL. One of the smallerish Upstate Banks (Trustco Bank) has been opening up branches left/right in Central FL (thanks to the NY'er bailing the state and grabbing Central FL by the balls). And of course they just opened up a branch where my father lives, which is full of NY retirees.

Wow, that stuff died down here after the midterms (and even then never saw anything that bad). There used to be a lot of Trump | DeSantis dream team flags. I guess that didn't work out.

This I don't get. Why the grievance? They are probably top 3%.

Indeed. I got this sense from visiting the capital building in Austin. Figured it was my civil duty to take my kids here. Under the atrium, adorned with the photos and paintings of prior governors, my son remarked: George W Bush was governor of Texas? I didn't know that.

Yep! And lot of Texas Governors before him were Democrats! (pointing to Ann Richards and Dolph Briscoe photos)

Anyway, I found this painting in the state Senate chamber, Dawn at the Alamo, amusing. I guess it's the idea. Nevermind that Davy Crockett and more than a few others there were probably anarchists (meaning they felt that government and laws only applied to them if and only if they agreed to them).

    PXL_20220211_175724873.jpg

With respect to liquor. What a PIA in TX. Can get the wine at the grocery store. And then to another get the whiskey or tequila.
