Yah, it's not hype. I can confirm this one is the real deal.

HD600-tonality without the hardness (it is there, but it's less annoying than HD600) + bass slam almost like an ortho + smooth midrange response like HD650 + smooth treble like HD650 as well + HD800 imaging and soundstage (maybe a bit less width?).

^ that summed up how I heard it.

As for what's bad about it? Uh... build? The designer is so lazy that it basically looks like a science project (which it probably kinda is), that and it's unobtainium.

Man, wouldn't it be amazing to make this go from a hype project to something ZMF style small-scale production? The SBAF's Super Best Electrostat!

(Not implying like, you should uproot your life plans or anything to pursue this, but I probably wouldn't tell you not to do that...)

They sound exactly how they measure in relation to the HE90s. The 3kHz is there, but not really bothersome. But subjectively there is also a bit of the 6-7kHz glare - see CSDs. But we are talking about a pinch of that: 10% HD800 levels. I still prefer the HE90 FR because it's smoother, despite it being brighter.

Still a bit plastic and smoothed over. I'd say somewhere between the STAX and Senn stats. Doesn't achieve the tactility (above bass) that the Senns stats have but gets close. Still exhibits the compression that I hear on planars and isn't any better than its peers in this regard.

Hard to say on resolution, but I don't think it gets close to the HE90, which is one of the most resolving headphones I've heard. Also not quite as agile as the SR-009.

Ergonomics are first rate. Much better than anything HFM has been able to come up with.

Milos has accomplished something really special by the looks of it (and reports seem to corroborate). Not everyday we see a DIY headphone from the community like this, and I think credit should be given where credit is due regardless of the preferences we have for one style of headphone reproduction versus another.

More and more, I am finding that the best headphones these days---of all types---tend to be those that are extensively modified and/or painstakingly tuned by members of this community with a good set of ears and feedback from others with good sets of ears.

The original Orpheus is definitely one of my all-time favorite headphones, but by this point they may as well be considered unobtanium in terms of their cost and rarity.

I enjoyed these when I heard them back at Wikia. I'm curious as to what changes have been made since then, as at that time I did not believe the bass performance to be notably superior or inferior to the OG (which is a little lighter on the low bass than I prefer). It seems recent impressions seem to regard the bass to be relatively impressive against other electrostatics.

Very true MF, having heard the three kings, so far nothing beats out the DIY/modded stuff, though each technology's inherent weaknesses stay. No free lunch.

Pretty much. Different strokes and all that: depending on our priorities and tastes, the inherent weaknesses of some technologies may be less problematic, or even---in some cases---perceived strengths. And visa versa.

But we can all stop to appreciate the amount of work that goes in to tuning this stuff. I mean, the vast majority of "professional" headphone manufacturers (of all types) can't seem to make a headphone that doesn't give me a headache.
