Is it possible that DS digititus can be reduced with the use of MELF type resistors or some kind of smoothing capacitor(POSCAP)?

Because both the Sony ZX2 and LH Labs Geek out have some type of MELF resistor and both don't have much digititus to speak of.

I'm no audio engineer, maybe some engineer god can explain to this earthling here.

I think one of the obvious comparison's many would like to hear about is between the modi uber and the Modi Multibit. Also these relatively popular brands are in the same price range, so comparisons are natural for these:
    • PeachTree DAC iTx
    • Cambridge Audio DacMagic 100
    • Musical Fidelity - V90-DAC
    • Pro-Ject DAC Box S USB Digital-to-Analog Converter

Thankfully, we're both aspy as f**k so it's not an issue. She reciprocates with plenty of her own hobby discussions: hand knitting human hair wigs, learning new and interesting musical instruments, and herping [reptile and amphibian hunting].

We do have an agreement that I'm not allowed to add extemporaneous narrative, technical details, or comparisons to more than two other previously discussed/owned items for simple clarity's sake. In exchange, she has to externalize what she's thinking about more. Neither one of us have good pragmatic language ability so we have to overtly manage our communication strategies.

From what I understand, those resistors are used as low pass filters to remove the quantization errors. I think iFi uses those too. I also think a low pass filter is common to remove this type or DS DAC noise.

I really hope this thing sucks. I don't have $250 to drop right now, ffs.

On the other hand, if this thing really does sound excellent, maybe some people will stfu about all DACs being audibly perfect.

Oh, my wife visibly suffers when I talk about this stuff. But bless her heart for pretending to be interested.

First impressions are very positive on my end. Unfortunately, my source and some amp components have changed, so trying to compare against the Bifrost Multibit based on memory is difficult. Personally, I think source played more a factor in Bifrost Multibit's warmth that anything. Never sounded particular warm with a good SPDIF source, but I know the Gungnir Multibit sounded warmer and fatter with direct USB (would assume the same applies for Bifrost Multibit).

Anyway, the MMB might be warmer if anything, but I'm not sure. I feel the upper mids and treble are smoother than Bifrost Multibit, more akin to Gungnir Multibit, but with a similar level of resolution as Bifrost Multibit.

Kinda reminds me of that old school Philips multibit sound, but I'd have to compare against my other DACs to be sure (which are... Philips multibit). But with the burrito filter goodness.

Comparing low end power and slam is tough too based on memory because I've since added the D100 to my collection, which is more ballsy and erect sounding than any other digital source I've tried. But I would guess the MMB shares a similar lack of slam and perceived low end extension like the Bifrost Multibit, it's just...really hard to complain.

Damn so it might hit like a pillow like the Bifrost Multibit. I have to try this before I buy it then. The Bifrost Multibit certainly was not a Conan the Barbarian DAC.

That's a good point. I use coax out of my RPi2 as a source, only bother with USB with my GOV2 now.

If anyone in LA gets a Modi Multibit and wants to bring it over to run comparisons against a fully warmed up Bifrost Multibit, just let me know.

Tough to say. I wouldn't say it's soft, but the D100 helps regardless. I honestly can't go back to USB anything after this, and care too little even for comparison's sake.

I heard @brightstatic just got his moby today, and he also has a Bifrost Multibit. Hey, be sure to write up your impressions!

So I've always been curious, if I've got something like the ZX2 and Dragonfly Red and am primarily an IEM listener, is there any notable difference to be gleaned from listening from a desktop DAC like the Modibit?

This is true. I was overdue for a work rig and very nearly bought the 2u stack about a week ago. With one finger on the trigger I caught the new schiit thread and decided to hold off for the announcement. So, basically moby (is that what we're calling it? Or modibit? I lost track) was perfect timing for me and I ordered first thing Monday. I currently use pm3 for mobile/work and am hoping the multibit warmth pairs well with them.

Quick aside, I had several small panic attacks today. These were delivered direct to my office so I had to remember to bring in a usb cable, rcas, etc. Except I forgot my long headphone cable with 1/4" plug. Crap. Do I have to just stare at it until tomorrow? No! I found an adapter in my desk! Ok crisis averted. I'm super excited for the new gear and turn them on and...utter garbage. Something is clearly wrong. My heart sinks. I goof around a few mins trying to isolate the problem to no avail. By some small miracle I find a second 1/4" adapter in my desk (why? I don't even...) and try that and it works! Whew. So much drama but finally I can relax and just listen. (Meanwhile I'm surrounded by coworkers silently going about their day. They have no idea what kind of emotional roller coaster I've been on. This is such a weird hobby.)

As far as impressions go, all I can really say at this point is it sounds great. But it's been ages since I used my pm3 from anything but that thunderbolt dac you see in the pic (and occasionally my phone) so of course it sounds better. Eventually I'll haul this stuff home and do some proper comparisons against my other gear. And tbh I'm just a noob. Not sure I'm really qualified to educate this crowd on new gear impressions. But my collection is growing though and that's the only way to learn, so here's to that.

/me looks at bank account and cries...

It's officially "Modi Multibit" as per Mike Moffat from a thread somewhere.

I still want to call it MOM for the stupid joke potential.
