Haha, thanks! You can bet my desk doesn't even look remotely 10% as clean during the times when I open my stuffs up. I have tried so many things and killed so many things now that when one of my headphones die, I'd just go... "Eh, bad experiment. Next one?"

The Jotunheim is probably the only amp I have tried that I do not wish to change/mod anything. Otherwise I'd be trying to open it up right about now...

...I have done... things to my Wyrd after all. ;)

Does the Jotunheim AMP part drive the HD800 better than the Valhalla 2 and does it especially give more guts, kick and slam, better staging? Where do they trade blows and who dominates where?

I loved the Valhalla 2 based on Marvey's recommendation, it just lack kick and I want to go back there again but maybe the Jotunheim Amp gives me an alternative for the next few years until I go bigger. I will go for the Modi MB for now.

of course all could change with a used Mjolnir 2 but those are hard to find in EU.

I just ordered the jotunheim to pair with hd650!

I use also hd800. I have read many that do not think the jotunheim + hd800 is a good pairing at all. I however only use, and like, the 800's with sonarworks or EQ. Does the 800's with EQ with the Jotunheim is a good match?

With HD650s, Val 2 still had the edge in soundstage depth, expansiveness, and micro stuff. I imagine this wouldn't be any different with the HD800. You'll get more clarity, driver control, and more slam from Jotun. My concerns would be tonal synergies between HD800 and Jotun.

I read your comment that nothing SS can touch good tube amps with sennheiser. So I can imply that you'd take Mjolnir 2 over Jotunheim? Im really in between mjolnir2 vs Jotunheim for hd650. any thoughts welcome!

I plugged mine in, deciding to use the SE output on my Gustard using the logic that I trust the summing on the Gustard over the Schiit.

It's warming up now. I really want to listen to the TH900 on this amp...

    The Jotunheim doesn't use summing

Mjolnir 2 still has a solid-state output stage. I prefer the Jotunheim, just for its extra clarity and grip. It's really a matter of different and finding the right amp for the right headphone according to your tastes. I actually preferred HD650 on Rag over Mjolnir 2 and I see the Jotun on that level, but being different to Rag rather than better. But the modded HD650 on Mjolnir 2 was really nice too - another good synergy. And don't forget Valhalla 2 with HD650 (maybe without quarter mods).

Don't be logic hardass with your assumptions and try both. The Jotun has a differential input - inherently balanced. The SE out from Gustard probably involves an extra circuit for summing or maybe not.

What logic? There is no summing anywhere in Jotunheim regardless of input or output used.

wow! very happy I waited. the mjolnir 2 was my plan until I get the fund. the fact that the jotunheim is likely the preferred amp and close to the rag is incredible for the money!!!!

Think of the Jotun as the ATC and Mjolnir 2 as the Harbeth. If that makes any sense.

Alright.. I've got the Jot and Modi Multibit coming early next week, which will square off against the A2/Bifrost 4490 on the ears and possibly put it on the chopping block. Oddly enough, I've preferred the Ifi Micro iDSD to the Schiit stack just due to the dynamic range and clarity it puts out on the 400i... also the tonality is superior to the stack, though, that may be due to the 4490. We'll see how the cards fall.

Exactly what I've been looking for! I'm using a Superdupont HD800 and can live with the highs on the X7's simple TPA6120B amp so the Jotunheim should be bearable too in that case. (using HD800 for years and adapted to it - would never go back to stock though)
I could live with better slam, clarity and driver control vs. the Valhalla 2's strengths until I go really big. Thanks.

I have a pending Mjolnir 1 offer but seeing this praise I guess the Jotunheim is the way to go.

Is the DAC module recommended for the Jotunheim? Currently running a Geekout IEM100 as a DAC, with a Meier Corda Jazz as amp. Stock HD650s.

It's USB only and USB powered, so... Yeah.. I avoided it and went Modi Multibit.

Both the Jot and the 650 (silver drivers) came today.

    Jot/T90 is wonderful.

But holy mother of god is the 650 DARK. Coming from bright Beyers that was going to be obvious, I just wasnt prepared for how dark these are. My old HD600 are practically Grados compared to these.

Those were my initial thoughts of the unmodded 650/Jot. Technically a great pairing, it just felt like there was a blanket over the drivers.

Immediately did the coin, rear foam and dynamat mod...

Better but still shocking. I've just never heard cans this dark before and its kind of freaking me out. Don't meant to be dramatic.

Even with the mod, I am bothered by it. Gonna keep listening of course for brain burn in, but wow... Quite a day of extremes.

Lol received the same combo today. Dark yes, but I felt more smooth than smothered. Compared to some Beyers though, yeah I can see why it'd be a shock to the system :).

@ColtMrFire LOL Yeah, that's to be expected coming from brighter headphones. Spend lots of time exclusively with the 650s, maybe a week or so, then switch back. Unless you're older or have hearing damage, the 650s are actually about as balanced tonally as you can get with a slight darkness (alleviated by Jotun). Though some prefer the 600s, I know. Also focus on all sorts of low level and ambient details in comparison, since resolution is quite good on the HD6X0 family.
