    Thanks for the measurements!

Most of those are too ham-fisted for my liking. I'd prefer much more precise control. If they ever release a bigger brother with Q and more knobs I'll probably grab one, but these aren't precise enough for me.

The bands are pretty wide, so if we want more localized effect (higher Q), we nudge the knob next to it the other direction.

    Loki nudge 1.png

Purple = Knob #4 turned counterclockwise 1/4 turn
Yellow = Knob #4 turned counterclockwise 1/4 turn AND knob #3 turned CLOCKWISE 1/8 turn

I wouldn't totally discount the Loki because of this. It's been surprisingly effective with the few headphones I've tried it with despite the wide bands.

Ah ha! Okay, so with the bass knob all the way up and the lower mid down a notch, it might actually be a really nice sub-bass extension for the HD650.

    Another example.

Yellow = Knob #3 turned counterclockwise slightly past 1/2 turn
Purple = Knob #4 turned counterclockwise 3/4 turn AND knobs #2 and #4 turned CLOCKWISE 1/8 turn

This gadget might actually make a DT990 listenable.

Just got the Loki tonight. Only have tried it with my lightly modded HD800 so far. Definite possibilities here. So far the only "issue" is resisting not to adjust it for each track. But enjoying the unit so far. I don't hear a lack of transparency. But I come from a time closer to @baldr 's youth. ;)

This weekend if I get some time, I'll check out some other cans and the BW. But my first impressions have been positive.

Edit: 10 pm - really great piece of gear. Makes music fun.

Have been playing around with this and my modded HD800. So much fun, find it hard to take the Senns off again. FR comparison below, Loki knobs on 3, 10, 4, 11 o'clock positions ...

    Hi Marv,

Would this work for the Utopias? I just need to tone down the brightness a bit. Wondering if you got to try them with the Focals...

Can’t comment on Utopia. But it has, in my experience, an IMHO (notice the qualifiers; just don’t want to start another making friends thread. Folks seem a little touchy this week. Flu?) helped with several headphones, most notably as mentioned earlier with the HD800 treble and to some extent the bass. Has been able to help some with Audeze LCD 2.2 issues. I would recommend Marv’s suggestion regarding adjacent knobs settings.

@Rthomas Utopia should be pretty simple since there are no real offensive peaks or dips in the treble so simply adjust the treble knob down until it's no longer bright to you. Additionally you could add a little bit of bass but don't go crazy as the Focals already have a giant excursion compared to other dynamics so it would be easy to bottom out the drivers.

For whatever reason, I'm hooked on the Grado sound. I loved my GH-1 but just don't listen to headphones enough to justify the cost, so they were sold in favor of my venerable SR-60 of many years which (surprise) sound like the GH-1 sans bass and some warmth and smoothness.

Add Loki and presto! Grado transformed. Loki is quite the trickster–highly recommended for fun, at least.

Re Utopia, IMO they can use a bit of a bump from around 2-3.5kHz. I haven't had a chance to play with a Loki, but I'd be tempted to raise the upper mid knob and lower the treble and lower mids. I'd also raise the bass a bit, but that is probably more just personal preference.

Lowering the treble and lower mids will already be an effective bass boost

    Hi Purr1n,

I've no way to measure these. Question is, do you mind providing measurements to the flattest response possibly achieved with the Loki to take out as MUCH as low frequency possible while using the other knobs to compensate? Also interesting if you can do that one for the Old Loki vs the New Loki.

I see yes, one can manage the overall frequency response by using all the knobs. My interest is to see if the Loki can be used as an effective high pass filter and verifying what would be the cut-off frequency for the speakers that one can create with the Loki.

    Say
    Knob #1 @ - 8dB
    Knob #2 @ + 5dB
    Knob #3 @ - 2.5 dB

And the end result would be? Maybe a -6dB per octave below some 100Hz? That's very decent. I am curious if you could manage to do that and the other 2 knobs to maintain the flattest response possible.

If you had some spare time that'd be awesome. I feel this gadget is heavily misunderstood in its use, but there are no visuals available anywhere to navigate its flexibility.

    Thanks beforehand. Cheers!
